Okay, I did it. I made pony feathers.
I had the idea for a while, actually, and originally planned on making some of these for Anthrocon, but decided to see how people like them at Fur the 'More instead :3 And for the purists, no, these aren't meant to represent their actual feathers if they're already pegasi (Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy). I tried to get a good representation of the actual pony's overall coloration.
And yes, the Rainbow Dash feather is ridiculous with its super long wire. I had to give her rainbow beads, so next time I think I'll find a way to do two beads side by side so it's only 3 beads tall instead of 6. (Edit - I tried a 'step level' wrapping for the next one I made and I think it worked pretty well! - http://www.falconmoon.com/masks/rainbowdash.jpg )
...why am I putting so much thought into My Little Pony feathers :x You should have seen me buying beads. "Oh these beads are PERFECT for Pinkie Pie! Ooooooooooh a Twilight Sparkle bead!"
Oh, and I'll be making some for some of the secondary ponies, too. Zecora, Princess Cadence, and Derpy Hooves are already on my list :3
As with all my leather feathers, these are hand-carved from 7-oz leather and painted with acrylics. It's also hard to see from this angle, but the edges of the feathers are the same color as the quill (you can kind of see it on Pinkie Pie's). Also they're painted the same front and back.

While I'm not a huge fan of the show, I do think the characters are adorable and I think you did a brilliant job on these. I didn't actually notice that Rainbow Dash's feather was so long until it was pointed out, but it looks fine :> The different lengths give this a natural feel.
