This is an older piece that I wrote in 1991, when I was still in my full-bore teen angst phase, and it was inspired by reading about the mating habits of female spiders and praying mantises. It further came from the bitter realisation that even as mammals, humans, both male and female, all too often use love as a predator's tool, and beauty as a weapon.
