You know I always found the idea of a doomsday machine to be rather pointless unless the mad scientist happent to be suicidal as well as crazy as hell, because what is the point in making a machine that will destroy the world while you are on it? Even if you can get onto a rocket ship, its not like you can really go anywhere of importance.
