Holy crap dude, look who's coming (cumming) to dinner!?! *lol*
Yea I got the hair pasted on and added a little texture to him to make him look a little more like a dracine rather than a plastic grey toy. :)
If you took a look at my movie post of Falcor's uncolored bust (my last post) I had asked you to pay attention to the shadows. If you were a good fur you noticed that the hair did indeed have shadows that did follow the model as it rotated which is kewl, BUT the shadows were blocky and didn't really represent the hair but rather the geometry that the hair is 'painted onto'
Now have a look at this still, in particular at the shadow on Falcor's neck under his jaw. You will note that this time the hair is actually casting real shadows. (AKA the individual strands of hair are casting individual shadows) Hehehe. This 'effect' as far as I know is NOT possible in many 3D programs, particularly DAZ and Poser which has trouble with their respective render engines and shadows in general.
For giggles I checked as to Falcor's current geometry. closing in on 30K faces (polys!) Render time per 800x600 image approximately 45 seconds EVEN with all the crap like the special shadow calculation turned on!
"Go dragon, go dragon, go dragon!" (Does a little dragon dance cause my optimizations so far are working like a charm! :)
"You don't know what, we can do...
why don't you come with me little boy...
On my magic carpet ride!"
