WANTED: Book Sorter (Inquire within)
The literature lining the shelves of Bart's bookstore is nothing short of odd. Sure, there are the popular pieces that every bookstore should keep in stock to make ends meet, and the less common items of varying availability to finish the quest of the obscurity-reader; but it is the other bits of hardback binding which draw the greatest attention. Some simply appear on the tables without need for placement, some fall on the floor from a shelf that was never there, others arrive politely by mail with no return address, but all hold a very singular trait: they house the desperate and forgotten lore, longing for recognition. Not all are eager for readership, though, not in the manner of curling up in a beanbag to while away the hours lost amongst its pages... well, they do, but the nastier ones yearn only to feed. This is where the Sorters come in, to break open the eldritch cover and tame the maleficence within. A singular leotaur, Bast, did not know this going into the job.
~
I've been listening to H.P. Lovecraft, can't you tell? This idea underwent development for some time, ever since Bart's character gained his first degree of depth (black lion, gold mane, some might know him as "Eli" which isn't wrong since it's his first name, but he goes by his middle name, "Bartholomew"). He's plagued with hopeless obliviousness due to a constant overload of sensory information (last check, he was senses numbering somewhere in the 200's), but he manages to get by through a utilization of multiple senses for any single task, and good ol' magic.

What a unique and fascinating character! As for the job, well, Lovecraft isn't the only one to suggests books have a life of their own and can even be dangerous, though invoking his name certainly suggests how terrifying these books are. Here's hoping a brave and powerful leotaur (the D&D term BTW is wemic) like him can handle that creature and save the store. ^_^
