I wrote an article of this matter together with the comic, and i may post it here. First off i would like to thank
raznir for proof-reading it and helped make the article presentable and grammatically correct. thank you bro!!!
Here is the article:
What troubled me first after hearing of this will be the same as anyone else who has heard of it, or probably read the title, what IS generation: Y? After doing my quick research, Google will always be your friend, has shown that it is millennial group that were born from 1980s-2000s. Further investigation shows that this has been mentioned before in Ad Times and USA Today using different names such as: Generation We, Global Generation, and the Net generation. And where there is a Y, there was previously Generation X which was from 1950s-1980s. But since Generation X is old history, let’s dive in deeper to the core of generation Y. People born within this time period shows a major difference in lifestyles compared to the previous, one good example is the “rite of passage” to adulthood. Where parents have failed in getting married and finding a career early in life makes the children take longer. The reason behind this dilemma is the fast pace life the parents led which caused a percentage of these parents to go through divorce and other stressful events involving their marriage. Another issue with the previous generation was regret and increase stress from the career they chose in the end. The children see this and immediately want the more positive side of what their parents went through. This reasons correlates to the saying “we want the best for you” repeated multiple times as a child by both parents and even the rest of the family. Children from Generation Y will take their time in doing the best for themselves to not fall in their parent’s rut. Living with one’s parents is also very common within this generation, 90% of said generation claim to be “extremely close” to their family. But what makes this generation pop up yet again in this era was thanks to the technological side. 97% of people own a working computer, 93% own a cellphone, and most important 34% rely on the internet as their primary news source. In previous articles, it was mentioned that people do not fully read articles and rarely look at a newspaper. What is more troublesome is that it mentioned that people are pleased with a small headline than reading anything more than 125 words. I made a short social study and asked a few people if they would read long articles from any of their social media sites. The answers varied between basic “yes” and “no” response, but the majority of the people answered that it “depends.” The reason for that answer was very straight forward, “If it interested me I would read it.” In theory, if a headline catches our interest, we would read it. And it’s the same with online sources, since the liberty to read it whenever and wherever you are makes it great for this. If a popular news channel mentions a story that is absurd or pointless, I wouldn’t watch or hear it. Only when they announce that the president signs a new bill or law, I immediately read about it before people panic or complain about it. Our generation is not doomed to live a fast paced life and only need one-liner to survive. With all due respect, we are moving cautiously through every little obstacle and one little news article about Honey Booboo winning another beauty pageant will not stop us on our path. But if there is an article that will shine new light, change our career plans, or simply catch our interest in general will make us grab a paper and read it as we keep going forward.
