I'm in the very gradual process of redesigning my fursona, Hethkar. Default setting is medieval fantasy; so this is the weapon I've come up with. So far as I am aware, nothing such as this actually exists or has existed, and I am tentatively calling this a Warshield. Simply put, as you can see, it's a shield with bladed edges that can be split into two long blades with the grip in the center. Suggestions on how to make this look better and more plausible would be appreciated. Be aware, though, that this is just a quick set of sketches that I drew up immediately when the idea came to me, without any kind of reference or anything.

The concept is solid, however the picture could use a bit of work as I can not tell if it's meant to be rounded or flat, I'm also curious as to what the shield is made from, how thick it is, and what you want the strap to be made from, as well as how it's connected to the shield itself.
I was thinking flat shield, Iona, although, now that I'm thinking more on it, tapering into the bladed edges would likely be more effective; as a shield of normal blade thickness likely wouldn't be terribly effective for very long. Also, it'll be made from metal; iron or steel, most like. For the strap... I'm not sure yet.
Rounded would be a good idea for making it split into two half shields, also shields normally have two handled, 1/4 of the way in from each side. You may wish for a set of four so you can hold the split shield on both arms. Also have you thought of how it will split and come back together easily, in a realistic fashion? Also I must suggest metal for the held 'strap' and leather for the ones that you will put your arm through mostly for comfort since metal in rather unflexible in the thickness needed to make it a good strap.
