Plot:
Decided that yes, the 'mons should speak. Still not sure if the humans should understand them, but I'm leaning towards yes. It'll allow for more character interaction that way. And remembering who can understand who during multi-character conversations later would be too much of a pain in the face.
My character lives with his grandmother. Who will be based on my grandmother, if she shows up in-panel.
In-comic explanation for the 1-mon a route rule!
Also, Red mentioned in-comic for the first time. My character isn't a replacement for Red, he's an addition! This will affect the plot later, and I'm already making plans.
ETA: Blast, I was planning to mention this and forgot for a bit! Red's gone off and done the Oak's Package fetch quest while my character was packing for his Pokémon journey! I'll probably skip the Old Man's catching lesson, too.
Art:
Did the fire on Charmander's tail the first way I did it. I think it comes out pretty nice. Hopefully Squirtle's head looks less like it's glued to the outside of his shell, now.
The quality of my perspective clearly indicates that the events of this comic take place inside a universe with non-euclidean geometry. This should (hopefully) improve over time.
Gary's width varies wildly from one panel to the next. As does my own character's. This annoys me greatly.
Colorwise, I think I should work on making the colors a little more toned down. Less saturated. I've been trying, but clearly they're still very bright. I hope to get the colors settled quickly, but I'm at the mercy of my skill level. More practice, ho!
Okay, these are from art in the room, not live 'mons, but I'm counting it.
Pokémon I know I can draw: Meowth, Dragonite.
And yes, the human characters have no necks. It's a thing I do sometimes, and it's a part of this comic.
Gameplay:
Charmander uses Scratch.
Squirtle uses Tackle.

Squirtle faints!
