Had chance to get Spearow but Ember did an accidental super-effective-critical-hit combo.

you mean you had ember try to subdue a new creature but instead, it got such a massive hit combo that it kinda destroyed it.. mm?

(why didn't the ball catch it anyway.. is there a power level limit on the kind of creatures that those balls can hold ??)

No, there's a random chance thing. Pokemon have a catch rate (number 1-255), condition of Pokemon/better ball multiplies the number, and a random number from 0-255 is generated by the game - if it is below the catch rate, Pokemon is caught.

AAAAHH.. so there's different levels of "ball" capabilities.. better quality types then just one single standard form.. so more experienced trainers and such SHOULD have higher quality pokeballs... right?

Yes, they tend to become more available. But this is Pokemon Red, in Generation 1, so she won't get any better than regular Poke balls until at least Vermillion city.

yeah although I don't get how in the TV show Ash was always able to use just regular pokeballs and never really had a problem catching pokemon that often… it seemed like he was the luckiest trainer ever

The TV show uses (yes, present tense, it IS still going...) different rules, and for the most part the Pokemon he catches are ones who want to go with him anyway. That kinda skips the calculation because they don't try to escape.
But it's more realistic in a different way - the Pokemon Ash catches are by no means instantly "his", and may rebel in one way or another.
