This is the very first backcover commissioned by E.T. Bryan for Gremlin Trouble. The story in a nutshell is about a weather fairy named Cypher who is "grounded" by a spell that turns her into a gremlin. While losing the freedom of the air and her nature magic, she acquires the aptitude with things mechanical that all gremlins have. I decided to show her on the gound looking up at the sky. In the rain puddles you can see all the things that are, unlike Cypher, still airbourne. Yet there's a glimmer of hope since all of them are artificial flying machiens after all. The job was done with colour pencils after inking. It appeared on issue four.

I liked the book because it was a little quirky. Clearly E.T. had a thing for cute manga girls, and the book was his way of indulging himself. But was it Sandman or The Dark Knight? No... There were a lot of books I preferred to read, but it was good working for E.T.
When I saw the wrench lying beside her I was reminded of Winry from Fullmetal Alchemist, who's a complete toolhead, and who appears in some of the opening titles with a spanner in bed. But then I looked at the date. I believe FMA didn't start untl 2001. Maybe they stole the idea from you.
