Heh, well, it's actually a slightly different term, even if it sounds the same: jackleg (the word the old fart used) versus jack-legged, which was a term for digitigrade from really, really early in the fandom. I have no idea of its origins, but it and "toe-walkers" were how people commonly described any furry that didn't have human leg-structure.
