It's actually quite a popular mythological beast in Japan, China and Korea.
The Japanese 'kitsune' are just the most popular version it seems. Kyuubi are just the most powerful form of kitsune.

I love how you drew his tails, and the floating chains are very cool! Nice use of complementary colors as well :D
