It sounds fancy, so it probably tastes good. “I’d like the délice de poire” you tell Maree. She nods, “Excellent choice. As a matter of fact, that happens to be my favorite! I’ll be back with your meal shortly.” A couple of minutes later she returns with several large plates packed with pear related foods. It appears the délice de poire is actually an assortment of foods, from pastries to salads to chicken in a pear sauce. There are even just plain old pears in a dish, sliced and artfully arranged. The spread covers your entire table. “Wow. This is a lot of food” you remark. Maree sets down the last dish and thinks for a moment, then replies, “Not really. Think of it like tapas. You get a taste of all of the dishes, taking a bit from each one.”
“Don’t you normally have tapas with more than one person though?” you ask, but she is already gone, walking over to a different table to take someone else’s order. Well, waste not, want not. You start with by trying some of the chicken, and immediately understand why you have heard such good reviews about this place. The chicken is divine. You would not expect chicken, or any kind of meat, really, to go so well with pear, but this dish pulls it off. You finish the chicken and pull over one of the many pear pastries. Looks like you will be eating lunch for a little while. It takes some time to finish all the food, and you are completely unaware of the pounds that you are packing on the whole time. The food completely ignores biology and instead chooses physics as what dictates it, following gravity down to your thighs and rapidly growing bottom. Your jeans creak in protest at this, and your belt strains to stay in one piece. Matters are not helped by your stomach, which is also gaining a layer of blubber, though not as much as the bottom half of you.
As you gobble down the last pear, you see Maree walking back over to you. “Did you enjoy your meal? Can I get anything else for you?” You nod in affirmative to both. The only question now is what to get. The assortment of foods you just ate was quite good, maybe you should get some more of that. Although on second thought, that kiwi and melon salad would probably be healthier.
More pears or some of the other?
