Uhhhm I HOPE THIS ISN'T TMI but the character has a form of clinical depression which, due to their circumstances, goes largely untreated. They're generally okay but they'll occasionally have downswings where things like this happen. NOT THAT OFTEN THOUGH ahahahgeez.

As I said on Tumblr, I really love this... Although I see several bird characters around FA, I never really see pictures like this where they carry over something that is behavioral for birds unless it's something light and silly. I really enjoy this! Poor Home, though. :c

I hate to sound like some sort of ~*animal elitist*~ since all animals are great, but I feel like birds have so many complex behaviors and can be damn intelligent. There's the wonderful side to that, like all the language and song and silly fluff-butting, but it's also kind of depressing in a way, which I guess it most literally represented in the plucking behavior? It's always fascinated me how similar it is to the ways humans can choose to cope, and how much intelligence and complete inability to change one's situation goes behind it. In an animal that we keep in a tiny cage because it's pretty.

But yeah that rant aside, finding ways to incorporate bird-parts into bird-people is my fun time. :P Like making Home have an awful singing voice due to that awful barn owl screech.

There's a lot of that that's really true. I think I've had several people ask me if I own a chameleon, and one of the reasons why I don't is because of the reasoning that people keep it in a cage because it's pretty. I guess it's different from a bird in ways but I understand what you mean completely.
