In the setting that they come from, their race (the Balloh) is capable of using a supernatural ability known as Mysticism. Those who use it are known as Mystics.
The story is mostly about the person not shown; the other parent of the two children, who was killed while away from home. Though I don't take any credit for the title of the picture, it's quite true: Yllran is seeing that his kids are all he has left, and that makes them more precious than anything else in the world to him... hence the worried expression of parental concern.
Sometimes it's difficult to know what's really valuable to you. Other times, you know all too well what you value most, and worry for what might happen to it.

Sort of...?
I'll give you the short version: I'm running a tabletop game with some homebrew rules based off of Fire Emblem, and in the same sort of style, but in a futuristic setting. If you look back through
not-fun's gallery you can find some art of the rest of the cast - Yllran is just one of many. It's a work in progress in that I've only just started it with the players, and it's not in that I've gotten it planned out to very fine levels of detail.
