Of course nobody but scream knows for sure, but since shes been shown as normal sized (or close to it and having just grown a tiny bit) before and her necklace having a significance has been hinted several times I always assumed she used it to make herself grow.
Not sure about her liking death and destruction though, most of the art I remember of her she looked like she was either reclining or posing, enjoying her size rather than attacking people with it (or perhaps enjoying people staring at her size XD ). Like all those times shes just sitting there staring at a passing plane, or holding a boat while looking at the viewer rather than purposely crushing the vehicles.
Well, and of course all the times she acts like a tease by licking people or vehicles, can't forget those
(Yeah, I like scenarios where a macro is licking a micro )

That destruction sentence was mainly a sarcastic one. I'm pretty sure Ali's not like that.
However, all, if not, most of Ali's pics, while she may not look like she's even paying attention to the city, that's just it. She's not paying attention, thus destruction ensues. Not to mention the ones where she's clearly paying attention, like the one where she's in the lake with the golden gate bridge between her toes, the airport one (though she's in the background), and also the one where she munches on the bridge.
Like you said, only Scream knows. And by that . . . I don't think he knows either. I think all pictures are supposed to be taken for face value and we come up with our own backstories. I belive Scream agreed with me on that.
And I like when the macro licks the littles, as well. Especially if I'm the little.

For the ones where skyscrapers are barely ankle-height to her, true, she causes some damage but it looked more unavoidable just because shes so big at that point rather on purpose (and she still causes surprisingly little damage for that size still, especially with her tail almost always being out of the way). I think that one where she was attacking the bridge was a commission though.
But in the ones where shes smaller (and that is putting the term loosely) and the people are doll or ankle sized rather than the skyscrapers she tends to be a lot less destructive and friendlier.... that and people tend to end up in her cleavage which I (and I assume nearly everyone else) have no problems with
Oh, and now that you mention it, I guess it was kinda silly for me to bring up the licking thing since there are probably few here who would not like it, its probably the equivalent of saying I like women with breasts, I must have zoned out when thinking to write that

Toujours aussi réussi. C'est plein de détails et anatomiquement il n'y a pas de problème de taille et ... pff problème de taille (8D) ... et Ali est toujours aussi jolie. ^^

lol gotta love peoples different interpretations of the character, and that is part of her allure for sure.
