Cute, mostly, is how I can define this. This is the first of this series I've seen so far, but I can guess it has a general tone of whimsy and charm. I can compare it to the adventures of Wallace and Gromit with a few exceptions like having the animal companion being able to talk. Of course, granted that Wallace and Gromit's greatest strength was storytelling through visuals so a short story in text will never have that appeal. On its own, there's enough showing over telling that I was able to catch on to this setting without actually having to backtrack on the latter. It does make me curious to read more of it long past, but that'll have to come later.
