This last month I've been taking steps into the field of fursuit making and blank casting for making fursuit/costuming heads. This owl is my first attempt at a sculpt and I am excited to share him with you guys!
I used multiple owl skull references to get a very owl-y feel to him, so he doesn't quite match up with any one particular species. I did my best to sculpt the head so that with minimal padding at different points you can easily change what sort of owl it will appear to be.
Once this has been cast, the crafter will have the ability to cut the lower half of the beak from the rest of the sculpt and hinge it for an articulated bird beak. I'll be offering two kinds of pre-orders so that if someone wants to do this themselves, they will have the option to do so at a lower rate than a ready to fur cut/hinged blank.
As a precaution I wanted to post the photos of what I have finished in hopes that if I've missed any flaws/imbalances that you, my watchers, can help me grow in this new endeavor. Have at'it and let me know if you see any changes that can be made before I move on to casting!
*I am currently changing the angle of the jaw/hinge portion so that the jaw will have more action and match up closer to the way a real owls jaw would hinge.
Here are some of the photos I used as a reference to sculpt:
Owl 1, Owl 2, Owl 3, Owl 4

Thank you for your input! I actually based the sculpt off of an owl -skull- so that people could add padding where they wanted in order to manipulate the overall shape. You'd be surprised just how many curves an actual skull has compared to what a feathered owl looks like. :D Updating the description with some owl skull photos. <3
:O
Are there things I can adjust on the blank in the eye sockets...or were you speaking generally? I totally agree that Owl eye sockets have a definite creep factor. Super difficult to decide what sort of compromises to make for the eye sockets so that they would look natural after furring. X3

Just realized that an email might be helpful. Xb
