Me and
jamesneko are gonna save the world! Him a riolu, me a chu! I' not sure how facing off against Giratina fits into all of this by I assure you it is of the highest importance and has nothing to do with a chu just wanting to punch out a legendary to prove he could cause that'd be superficial, just the fact that two goals happen to coincidence is purely coincidence I assure you.

I could spend hours writing up the multiple reasons the statement of "closet thing Pokemon has to some sort of devil". But instead I'll just summarise.
If Giratina is the closest thing to a devil...why would he show up to fight Arceus alongside Palkia and Dialga to stop Arceus (in his rage) from wiping out mankind? If he was a devil equivalent, I'm sure he'd have stayed in the Reverse World and simply let it all happen and maintain his job keeping the real world intact by tending to the Reverse World.
Just saying... owo

Heh, I'm just being cheeky, I'm more saying he makes a good villain, what with being spooky, and foreboding, and he was banished after all xD. Plus my Alternate fursona is a Shaymin
Ilex So I guess I may have a slight grudge, what with the attacking he did in one of the many many pokemon movies.
Plus when you make a god pokemon, people are going to have some fun with it, I didn't mean nothing by it. Though that also makes you think.... Would the Devil save mankind from a vengeful god, simply because he holds a grudge against said god?
I'm just having some idealistic fun is all :3, I personally think he'ld make a very good pokesatan x3, granted if there even is one, though where there is an Alpha, there IS bound to be an Omega.
Still, Hope I didn't offend anyone with my sillyness o.o

Not quite a 'god', more of a Deity. Also, you need to REALLY reflect on what happened.
Giratina pulled Dialga into the Reverse Word, and Dialga (without meaning to) dragged Shaymin in along too. Giratina was wanting revenge on Dialga for his fight with Palkia which caused a LOT of damage...which Giratina had to repair within the Reverse World.
During the conflict between the two dragons, Dialga TRAPPED Giratina in the Reverse World, forbidding him to leave. When Shaymin used their special move and Dialga escaped from that dimension...leaving Giratina trapped.
Shaymin saw Giratina coming for it, and was immediately like "OH GOD IT'S GOING TO EAT ME!!" when it was simply the fact that Giratina wanted to ESCAPE, and Shaymin was that key to escaping the confinement that Dialga caused.
But I digress...
I just don't think you could qualify Giratina as a 'pokesatan' solely because if he was...he'd be stronger than both Palkia and Dialga, but slightly weaker than Arceus.
And since Gen 6 is on the way, maybe they'll have a REAL satan lined up.
Besides...according to the second PMD...Darkrai was more of a satan than anything else. He wanted perpetual darkness and night so his powers would be unlimited.
Yeeeeeeah...he fits that 'satan' spot better. Especially his ability to trap anyone in a nightmare from which they can NEVER awaken from without a Lunar Wing or Cresselia's help.
And now I must apologise for the wall of text. I really get into it sometimes.
TL;DR Giratina was never wanting to harm Shaymin, merely wanted help escaping after being trapped by Dialga. And Darkrai is more devil-like with their role in PMD2 and their ability to trap victims in a never-ending nightmare.

A common mistake a lot make, and yet even more refuse to think differently and are basically like: "Ghost, large, evil-looking! SATAAAAAAN! DEEEEEATH!" and such. Seen it a lot and it gets rather annoying, but at least this wasn't exactly one of THOSE cases.
But no, Giratina is solely responsible for maintaining Reverse World which is a world opposite of the world everyone else lives in. As such, large damages done to the real world causes damage to the Reverse World. Giratina protects both worlds by ensuring that the Reverse World remains functional. When a MASSIVE glacier came loose because of the actions of a villain in the movie, it was Giratina that repaired the damage through the Reverse World itself.
Don't think a god of death would try save lives. That'd be counter-productive. cx

To be fair, I have pretty little information on him as I never played platinum, and Diamond/Pearl didn't give a lot of information other than a tablet in the place you capture him which may have vaguely possibly related him to death.
Also, the anime is a very very different cannon from the general tone and such from the rest of the series which I tend to ignore and only really care about the manga and game cannon :p
Actually come to think of it, I never read the D/P mangas so have no idea how he was displayed there. I do know where as Dialga is Time, and Palkia is space Giratina is anti-matter.
It was created along with Dialga and Palkia by Arceus, though as it was banished for its violence (possibly by Arceus) to the dimension called the Distortion World.,[1] it has been forgotten from the legends as "one whose name was never to be spoken." While Dialga and Palkia represent time and space, Girantina represents antimatter. It lives in the Distortion World, but can also visit a cemetery-like ruin known as Turnback Cave, a place where the dimensional boundaries are said to be distorted, and dead Pokémon are able to enter the physical world. Giratina is capable of inter-dimensional travel, which causes it to change forms unless holding a "Griseous Orb." It is able to see into the normal world through mirrors and reflective objects, because they can bring to mind other dimensions. -Taken from Wikipedia cause to lazies to power up my game and find the text.
So based on this info it does have some vague association with death based on at least where it can appear.
Just did a quick search on it's role in the manga and found that in the HeartGold and SoulSilver story arc it was actually one of the antagonist, which may put him firmly on the evil side in that continuity, then again maybe not as it was a little vague on what happened, and he could have just gone berserk like Mewtwo did before Red subdued him and later turned out to be one of the strongest mons on Team Good Guy. I really need to pick up the manga again, I'm still back in the Yellow arc.
But anyway, PMD is a completely different cannon to the manga, normal game and anime, and in that well, legendaries tend to be jerks who attack you without any warning just because you're in their dungeon (though often times this tends to be related to some kind of corruption or natural disaster making everyone crazy) so he could easily be put into a temporary villain or boss category in the PMD world, which is where this would take place. =D
That or we're just here at the World Abyss fighting him for the right to take home one of the Seven Legendary Treasures.

I know all of this. I know there are different variations and such. But those are more of alternate dimensions. That's like comparing the Eragon books to the atrocious movie. You just can't. And to ignore any form of media rather than embracing all (even as an alternate universe) is being ignorant and slightly lowers the validity of your opinion on the subject to be potential fact. Just saying my thoughts, I apologise for being rather blunt and perhaps a little rude, as it was not my intention. But that's just how I feel about it.
I admit I am not quite so deeply into the manga as I wanted to be, but I had stuff getting in the way one way or another.
Before you say it, no...I'm not being a hypocrite because I know that unless I know all of the information in all media, this is all pure theory and opinion no different to yours. But I also prefer to use a decent degree of logic...well, as best as I can. But I'm not exactly a genius. :B
Um...he's a ghost, I am pretty sure a 'vague' tie to death is inevitable when you're a ghost type. That's generally the idea, but that doesn't mean "death god", am I right? It's too vague to declare that, I reckon. cx
Also, I would not call Giratina 'evil'. I would consider it more of...chaotic. It is known that Giratina was banished to the Reverse/Distortion World due to excessive violence. Which would give credit to the whole "one whose name was never to be spoken". Giratina is very territorial and carries traits many would associate with traditional non-Pokemon dragons. But you are right, it is too vague, because that's what makes Giratina so mysterious.
I am aware that PMD is completely apart from the other games, the manga and anime. I know this. But while I may not be able to solidly prove my position, you cannot prove yours either. Giratina never had (as far as I recall) a solid genuine storyline in the PMD games. It was just a Legendary that you went to go look for.
And not all Legendaries are jerks. Just the territorial ones may be. Like when someone tampers with time, or space...Palkia and Dialga get involved. If you invade their territory, like the sky where Rayquaza resides, you're in trouble. Though, as you say, it could be related to the whole crazy stuff.
Latias and Latios were the nicest Legendaries in the PMD games. Well...that's my opinion. Others were nice too...eventually. :B
I have found one flaw in your scenario, however. You cannot use Game Mechanics outside of a game situation. Stats in games are balanced and altered for the sole purpose of making the gameplay smooth and not "OMG THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN!" or have a super-power on your team. So if we ignore the game mechanics entirely and use realism...a Pikachu and Riolu would not have much of a chance winning against a ghost and dragon type with the powers of antimatter, dimension-jumping and is a deity.
But I digress...
This has been a fun conversation, I must say. It is good to have an expansive conversation and be able to not hold back, since the majority I encounter always just do the whole "Too long, didn't read it" when I express myself fully. Thank you for listening.
Also as a side note...a cannon is a weapon. I knew you meant canon, obviously, ;P

He is equal in power to Giratina and Dialga, ergo god, and he is a ghost, ergo death. The death god is a pretty easy conclusion to make.
And actually, it's not ignorant nor does it lower my opinion to ignore the anime. If I don't like the anime I'm not going to watch it, and if I don't watch it I'm obviously not going to use the personality/role of a mon from how they appeared in it.
And consider that this picture isn't exactly really happening in the game and just my imagination, I can pretty much say anything I want about Giratina and have it be true for the purpose of that story, so if I want it cast in the role of a villain, why not? Not like these things have personalities and roles completely set in stone considering it tends to change every single game, especially in the Mystery Dungeon game. Groundon was a giant earthquake causing jerk in the first one, in the second he was a guardian of the seven treasures you was downright respectful to the mons who challenged him. So, yeah. Fiction for the win!
And I don't know what you're talking about, a Pikachu and Riolu could totally take down a Giratina. The world is filled with stories of brave heroes who undertake an impossible task against an enemy far more powerful than them, and rather it be through teamwork, clever thinking, determination to continue going no matter how many times they're knocked down, the power of friendship, getting the Infinity +1 sword, the hero finds a way to overcome the impossible odds and that's part of what makes a story engaging. It'd be a pretty boring story if our heroes were put up against a caterpie in a wheelchair who only knew string shot.
Actually, if you take out game mechanics, can pretty much just paralyze Giratina with a thunder wave and that would pretty much be game since if you were paralyzed in real life you can't exactly still move and occasionally attack.
Granted, my style of doing ways involves being a lot flashier, a lot of one liners, and giving big heroic speeches about everything that's led up to this point, and possibly a giant drill.
Sides, everyone knows pikachus storyline wise are on par with legendaries, I mean outside Ash's pikachu... who... somehow made... electric armor just... Seriously what am I looking at, there's also Red's chu, who defeated Brock's onyx, without the use of water. He just crashed into it so hard the onyx exploded. No seriously, this happened. Then, he later used Pikachu to take down Mewtwo (though there were some master ball shenanigans involved) and the chu even learned Iron Tail, during the generation 1 manga, years before steel types even existed. (Though that was actually Blue who taught him that, it's a long story) Then there's the pikachus from the Pokeparks who routinely take down things like Groundon and Darkrai. I'm not sure why, gamewise, pikachus are rather weak, but storyline wise a chu is like the ultimate trump card.
And then Riolu is totally a rookie Lucario, which per every fanfic I've ever read that pretty much makes him a godmoder. =D Okay, okay, maybe fanfics aren't the best, but still, punching things, and Riolus even get Foresight so they can punch ghosts!
There are a number of ways in a story that a riolu and a pikachu could take down a Giratina, my version would be completely nonsensical in comparison to a decent version of the fight, but it would still happen.
And what are you talking about? I totally have cannons, one that shoots anime DVDs at people and another that shoots manga. See, different cannons. =3
