Recently I picked up a JTL E-500 500w Monolight from Adorama and a 48" octagon softbox to fit it and heavy duty lightstand off of Amazon. Also, a setronic lightmeter. I'm teaching a class on basic studio photography and using it at the Anime Detour (Big local Anime con) photoshoot area for our group. Assembling the softbox was... different. But I finally got it together.

My cute little Aussie posing as the model here against a makeshift backdrop draped over the couch. The light is at a slight angle to the left, and I took this from the right side. Taken at 50% model light output and 20% flash output from about 8 feet away. Considering I literally threw this all together in 45 mins including setup time, not bad results at all.
