Gather ‘round children, and I’ll tell you a tale.
One the books leave out detail
It began with a man, Peter Walter’s his name
His love for a woman began a terrible game
Between himself and his friend, it was to see
Who could catch her attention most eloquently.
One with a glow of green
And music, destructive and mean.
One with gleaming blue
Singing metal men, to impress and woo.
Yet neither her heart stole
For in their race her death bell did toll
Now fueled by anger and rage
One seeks to make his own historical page.
And thus did they face, a war by the Nile
Giraffe and elephant, driven and hostile
Brother by brother, friend became foe.
A fight to the death, standing toe to toe.
How will it end?
To whom victory will lend?
Settle yourselves and watch it unfold
For this is the side of the Weekend War. Untold.
So the plot for 1897’s trip to Africa is now going. Thought I’d celebrate it with a bit of art and a poem. Um. Seven hours painting this, an hour sketching it out before hand. I’m rather proud of this piece.
