Lake in the Middle of Nowhere
Painting based on a photo taken by
neweinstein, seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7124972/
I've been in the mood to start practicing landscape type paintings again lately, and it seemed like it would be fun to practice using photos taken by fellow furs. I stumbled across one that I liked- seemed like a good place to start, pretty but fairly simple, and gave it my best shot.
Unfortunately I made a -lot- of mistakes here, and as you may know, once you make a mistake in watercolours you usually can't take it back. The biggest mistake is that I never fully decided how I wanted to handle the water. In the picture it's a near mirror image, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that, or add a lot of blur and go for a more stylized form of water. In the end I ended up doing something in between and it just didn't work at all. This is why the tree doesn't even come close to matching it's reflection- I didn't think I'd be needing it, but it turned out my plans didn't work at all, so yeah.
I also should have used more sky colour in the middle, as it is the fog is kind of a sickly yellow colour. Oops.
So, kinda rough over all, but hey, this is practice. Can't expect everything to go well when I'm just trying to figure stuff out, heh. At least everything above the waterline turned out half decently, sorta.
Anywho, lemme know your thoughts folks.

I've always liked landscapes, I just don't paint them as often because I'm a perv and I like getting people off. xD But it's fun to toss other types of art in there now and then.
Plus, I really want to start getting better at backgrounds for my furry based pictures, and this seems like a good way to start doing that.

Wow, even if you think you made mistakes, I had a good look and think its stunning.
I found something that works well with photographs of reflections is to display it upside down ... Makes the viewer do a double take at the work and makes them question which is reality.... If it can have that effect you know you have done it right with reflective work.
I personally love it :P

Even with those little issues you said you had, I still think this is a good picture. There isn't a whole lot going on, but the coloring is quite nice. That in-between effect might not be as bad as you believe it to be, or you did pretty well in making the most of it~
