Those rules are hard learned, and are there to prevent you from crossing over into a natural predator's sphere of lupine influence. There's a sphere of human influence, too, and most wolves are willing to enter into it, though some more than others.
The sphere of lupine influence- their unique mannerisms, their language, the pack "mood", and the individual mood are things that most people are wise to avoid.
I have to be honest. Because this wolf bonded with me, I had much more squish factor with him.
(And only him)
Normal wolf: "This human is awwwwful close to me right now. Just how much do I like them?" I've laid near wolves who I knew cared for me, but they eventually got up and left- I could feel the tension. I would not expect a violent reaction- some wolves just do not want to relax and wind down near any other creature. Including humans they really care for. Sometimes they just need their space. (Instincts will tell you when to leave them alone. But it's your duty to listen, and to obey them.)
Generally, it's not a good idea to lay around them. Especially if they don't know you that well. However, there are exceptions- people with very soft hearts, and good, kind spirits- wolves are far more apt to allow leniency in interaction. Some wolves will see someone for the first time and instantly trust them. So long as that person feels comfortable, the wolf will also be comfortable. If you become nervous they will sense it and it might put them off, just a little, until they either come to accept you have bouts of nervousness and love you anyway, or decide it is not worth it.
Wolves with lots of human interaction will naturally be lenient. They by their very natures do not want to hurt us.
This wolf: "Awww, my Bond is laying next to me." *Sighs* :)
Normal wolf: "Who is this guy? He smells kinda funny. Just a twinge of fear, or nervousness. I wonder why..." *Looks up and at the person* "Are you gonna challenge me for my role in the pack? Are you afraid you will lose? Cos if you win I might have to become a lone wolf, and might starve to death." Just like a horse. A horse is always thinking, "Am I in danger?" And, "Who's the leader?" It is the same for wolves. there are rules for horses too my friend. But horses do not have two inch long canines as thick as your thumb towards the base.
This wolf: "The scent of my brother calms me. Makes me feel protected, and loved. I am free to fall asleep around him, for I know he will never harm me. I love him, because he is a kindred spirit. My pain resonates with his own. He is my brother."

O.O That is amazing! It is a testament to your spirit, IMO that you have achieved this with him. Your persistence will pay off. Just... Don't get *too* comfortable... Not yet. Can you feel the atmosphere around him? The mood? Are you able to gauge his demeanor? If not, you will. It takes time. That makes me happy to hear! :))
thank you, i was always able to pick up on peoples (and animals) moods and energy because of the handicap i have. i communicate with people and animals better through body language than spoken word.*i know it sounds odd* i do have one question..what do u mean by 'gauge his demeanor
p.s. i am now discharged from the army due to the handicap i received on my last tour

I should have said, "Gauge his mood" but it sounds to me like you already have the gift. The ability to know what they are feeling. Some call it instinct... No, it doesn't sound odd at all. I was talking about it to some of me mum's friends last night at her horse ranch. They are Christian ladies, but one was telling me how she looked at her dog, and "told" it to be calm around this person who was visiting her. Well, the dog curled up and relaxed.
I am sorry to hear about your handicap. But glad to hear you are working with wolves! And the alpha is sharing food wit you- very cool. If I was you, I'd allow him to grow more comfortable with that. I have a video of me taking the white wolf up on his food- and yes- he allowed me to take it, to touch it.
But now that I look back on it, I should have kept my hands to myself and allowed him to grow comfortable with eating around me. Although he *did* bring the food over to me and plop down, eating it next to my face O.O

thank you for your help..i hope this doesn't sound awkward when i say that you have helped me, more like mentored me in learning to be around such awesome and wise creatures. i love seeing new pictures and videos of you and the white wolf. to me they are not just pictures, they are tools to study and learn from. i read each description before i even look at the pic..if the description says "look at" or "see the way his..." i then study the picture. u have helped me so much...please keep posting new things..and again thank you so much for your help and guidance
That means more to me than you know. It makes me feel like it's been worth it. Thank you so much for those kind words. :)
I will try and keep them coming. I have some pretty cool videos I want to post but I need to edit them a little. I am very busy with the many aspects of my life. but I will get them up when I can. Thank you again. :)
