Walking with Dinosaurs Live -- T.Rex and baby
I went to see WwD Live today, and it was awesome, although a bit on the short side. I took lots of photos, but unfortunately, my seat was rather high in the stadium, so I could not get good shots, and most of what I got ended up rather blurry.
This one was the best of the bunch -- momma Rex and her little offspring.
This show is a must if it ever shows in your neck of the woods. Really. Save your pennies if you must. Go. SEE. IT!

Yes, they were actual people. Their real legs are not even concealed. But one doesn't even stop to notice, and it never ruins the effect, because the eyes and mind are on the dino suits.
I sure wish I could commission a fursuiter to build something like them. :)

I did see a few short clips of this show on the news before it opened and I thought the concept was interesting. Being able to walk around freely in a large auditorium with animatronic dinosaurs walking around you and doing things was pretty cool. Mind you, the "walking around" was more of a "back and forth along a track", but still cool. The dinosaurs were extremely well detailed and the movements were very impressive.
On a side note, that photo of the rex made me wonder when we'd see some pictures of the t-rex with its full arms. I dunno if you heard about the recent paleontology dig where they found a rex with a complete, longer set of arms. It laid to rest disputes on how the rex could survive as a dominant pred with such tiny arms and claws. The new arms were comparable in size (in relation to body size) to the Allosaurus.

I saw it in Sacramento a while back. There was this green jacket on sale that was part of their merchandise and was like the most perfect jacket that I've wanted. It even looked like a regular jacket and not event merchandise, just with a little raptor symbol at the upper left on the chest. Sadly, they only had one size and it was one just below mine. ARGH.
Anyway, I wish the Utahraptors had gotten more time and interaction on stage, but the whole show was incredible. I wanted to hug the raptors...

I didn't see it yet, but I was watching Live with Regis and Kelly one day and they had one of the (smaller) T-rexes come into the studio.
You probably couldn't see it from any of your positions, but they had a closeup of the Rex's head and you can see some sort of wet marks around the eyes and nostrils, too, just for realism.

And here I thought this was another one of your impressive renders.
And there are people performing this?... this is amazing. Heh.... but I don't think anything this spectacular is ever gonna show rear its head in Maryland. Haha... mine is a boring state.
Thanks for the heads-up, though!

The youngling Rex is a person with a costume; the larger Rex is mechanical. (I believe the model is to actual T.rex proportions). See that bar on the floor? The person who moves the Rex around the arena is inside; he sees through that black window. Other unseen people control all the head movements for both Rexes.
From time to time in various places as far as I know - check the website! :3
