Neat! Did you know that some of the Lupin III animations were used to make a laserdisc arcade game back in 1983?

I have a fairly extensive Lupin collection, including a recording of the Cliff Hanger game video and the first --unsuccessful-- TV pilot episode, circa 1963. In fact the whole first Lupin series --the Green Coat series-- was not terribly successful. It was the second or Red Coat series the really took off.
And do you know *why* the game is called "Cliff Hanger" instead of Lupin the 3rd? It was because of a rather nasty copyright suit brought by the estate of Maurice Leblanc, who created the original Arsene Lupin around 1890, Seems the Japanese did not ask permission when they created the master thief's "grandson" and the Leblanc family was livid when they found out about it. Unfortunately for them, they were years late bringing their suit and the court ruled that they had forfeited their rights to the Lupin name in Japan, Their claim was still good *outside* Japan, however, and there the Lupin name could not be used without their consent --which they refused to give. Subsequently, in any product released from 1965 to 1990 Lupin goes by the names Rupin, Wolf and Cliff Hanger.
The copyright was later forfeited in regards to the Japanese character and so Lupin III is now Lupin III
