Androcles \a-nd-rocles, an-dro-cles\ as a boy's name is of Greek origin, and the meaning of Androcles is "glorious man". Latin mythology: Androcles was a Christian and a mild-mannered slave who once removed a thorn from a lion's paw. When Androcles was later tossed into an arena to face the traditional band of ravenous lions, he encountered the same lion which set him free. G.B. Shaw later used this tale for a play about Christian faith.
