darkened room musty lit disheveled hair, a combination of strength and female form and a lack of a path, cross inversion slight symbolic dead/undead birth/rebirth etc.

Too dark.. hm...
If you mean "Dark" as in "sad and foreboding" then you've not gone over the line. This is very cool, I like how the pose seems unbalanced, as if something has to happen soon or she'll fall off the chair - her expression seems wild and trapped to me, not necessarily dark.
If you meant "Dark" as in "colors" then I love the contrast.
