I set out to design this because I needed to costume as a bug-eyed monster. So the big bug eyes were the main feature. Also, though, I wear glasses (and haven't felt the strong desire to get contacts), so I needed the mask to be able to be worn over glasses.
And it worked, I think! The hexagonal pattern of holes gives a good impression of compound eyes, and the vaguely iridescent greenish paint I used matches a bug's carapace pretty nicely. I also decided to use glow-in-the-dark paint on the antennae; I gave it more and more coats towards the tip, so it glowed brighter and got more white. You can see the glow in the 3-second exposure below.
Laser-cut out of 4 oz (or so) leather, then hand-painted with acrylic paints and stitched together into shape.

The antennae are painted with glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint. This was the one I used: http://www.goldenpaints.com/product...../phosgreen.php (though that page has like no visuals, just text).
