I wondered if this piece of Schirm's wasn't in fact an animator's in-joke. If I'm not mistaken "squash & stretch" is the expression for the cartoon-like deformations that animated figures go through as they move. Maybe that wasn't the joke at all. It still looks like it would hurt.
