A set of Bald Eagle eggs.
These belong to Hali and Liberty a pair of Bald Eagles.
They’re not fertile, her and Liberty, her mate, are both disabled Bald Eagles each with a wing amputation cause by gun shot wounds they received in the 1980s in different states. The 2 birds have lived at the center I work at since their injuries. This old retired education duo are mated for life. They every year lay eggs that are infertile and will never hatch.
We let them keep the eggs because if they are removed the female will keep laying, this depletes calcium levels and can be unhealthy.
They are in their late 30s. After we found their eggs we got them a basket and more nesting material and my boss distracted them while I moved their eggs to the basket nest.
Hali now cares for them in the nest… eventually she’ll break them or give up on them.
