Now Leo, that literally seems to be saying that it's better to have guns and kill people than to be safe. There's indeed such a thing as too many safety measures, but I think we've proved that tons and tons of gun aren't necessarily pushing us forward as a nation.

Also, we've exchanged none of our freedoms. The country's more free now than ever. Back in the day, sexism, racism, and homophobia were enforced in the law books. While we still struggle with those issues to this day, progress has been made on them (except for maybe in Mississippi, the most backwards state of them all) and every day we get a little further.

The old days indeed saw rights mainly for white men and nobody else. The old days weren't as good as you think they were. Now is a pretty good time to be alive, so try and appreciate it.

I am aware that there were no such thing as the "good old days;" even poets of the 1600s longed for the simpler times of the past. I don't approve of killing people and didn't mean it that way. I'd better watch what I write or I am going to end up getting killed myself.

I highly doubt anybody on here wants to kill you - people aren't as militant as you might think. Don't be afraid to express youself, just be prepared to embrace even opposing responses, so long as they're civil.

That said, I know the guy who's long comment you hid was acting a bit pretentious, but trying to flat out ignore comments like that isn't going to help you cope with it. If you want to get better about it (and you do) then you should work on trying to live with them. Besides, in agreement or not, it means people are looking at least.

You don't necessarily have to respond, but leaving it visible shows that you're able to acknowledge even severe disagreement which is a respectable trait.
