This diagram shows three different positions of the mic for recording.

The one on the left is the least desirable, as it places the mic where it will most likely be subject to popping and hissing.

The one in the middle is better, as there is a pop screen between you and the mic. This eliminates the pops and hisses.

The on on the right is a substitute for those who do not have a pop screen. This has the pops going past the mic rather than into the mic.
