Schools all over the country have been losing their music programs due to budget constraints. It's part of this mentality that only math and reading matter. Any number of art classes are also on the chopping block, and it's crazy to me that the supporters of cutting school funding think that these things don't matter when in fact they can make all the difference in the world. I probably wouldn't be playing electric guitar if I hadn't played bass in middle school, and my elementary school was centered around the arts (We had drama, dance, music, and art classes) which I think played a significant role in getting me interested in them. Obviously people can seek these things out for themselves, but starting early is certain to be beneficial.

So be it music, visual art, performance art or whatever else, it's all too important to keep them alive.

Here's something you and I agree with. I started piano when I was 5 and percussion when I was 10. That had a big connection to the fact I'd bang on stuff with my hands rhythmically.

For all the things in your stories I disagree with, I never really feel the need to mention their intense love of music. Granted, it is pretty extreme but overall positive. Although I would like to see a greater respect given to other forms.

I was sort of fascinated with drums when I was younger. I took a drumming class in Elementary school but nothing really came of it. I still like "drumming" and am very prone to doing complex "pieces" with my hands and fingers when I'm bored. As you know, I eventually took on electric guitar.

I also took keyboard lessons when I was younger but I wasn't great at it. I kind of regret not learning the piano.
