This is Vanessa Longtail, a sliver phase vixen from the Angel and Knight universe. She is actually a MI5 agent with an expertise on ancient languages, but deep down in her heart she wants to be a Bond Girl! More important she wants to be one from the 60's and 70's. So here we see her dressed up like some Go-go girl from a Who video with a Sterling submachinegun. Medium color pencil with some marker, gouache and micron pen.

Yeah the more I've read about the Sterling the more impressed I am of its overall design. Yeah it doesn't have all cool features of the MP5, but it was designed wth some combat experience under belt. The one thing that was a trick and I didn't quite get right on the Sterling was that baked crinkled non-slip baked finish that some models have on their exterior surfaces. I got close but it is an idea I'd like to revisit in the future.
I find it interesting how certain firearms become in with Hollywood. I remember in the mid 70's when it seem every action movie, and space opera in particular, had to have Sterlings or you just weren't cool! Then in the 80's you had to have either Uzi's or MAC10's to be hip. The 90's was the reign of the MP5 with FN P90 taking some of the thunder toward the end. I'm not certain who will be the winner this decade but I put money on the M4 carbine as the strong contender. Maybe it has to do with the gun rental places can scrounge up for the studios?
Well Sterling was derived from experience that the British has gained during the WWII and so in many ways shows its hertiage to the STEN. The one thing the Brits did learn from STEN is how to design a magazine. After the less than sterling quality, pun intended, of their wartime STEM magazines they went on to make one of the finest SMG maga around.
Ah, the Sterling...I remember dreaming about owning one back in the late 80's/early 90's. Given the chance, that would be my weapon of choice. I've actually got quite a few magazines set aside for the day that I might finally purchase one...until then, I suppose I'll have to be content with my UZI.
Oh, BTW - my friend stopped by your table the other day, as I promised, but evidently you had stepped out! Unfortunate, another time perhaps.
