1) character(s) species/build.
2)specific characteristics. Do they have tattoos, do they have a typical facial expression that you want shown to make sure it looks like your character, special hair patterns, wings.
3) pose for picture setting.
4) clothing if there is any.

for all of these things, pictures help a lot.
