A number of others here have been turning out pieces celebrating JW Kennedy's Zandar Skonk. At the same time, I've recently been reading an edition of Treasure Island with illustrations by Mervyn Peake, and for some odd reason thought a Zandar drawn in the style of Mervyn would be an interesting experiment. The background scenery (and title) come from elsewhere - Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, with particular reference to Ralph Steadman's illustrations. What a combination. Anyhow, I managed to draw this without using a single solid black space - it's all lines and crosshatching. The results are ... something I'm not so sure about. SFTD is what's playing on her car radio, if you're curious.

I'm really not quite satisfied with how this came out - for all my talk about Mervyn Peake, I suspect that the ghost of Dr Seuss somehow had a hand in this image as well. I also notice that the samller the image size the better it looks.
Still, I suppose it doesn't matter if only just one more viewer becomes aware of the marvel and terror that is ... MERVYN PEAKE! Writer and artist and book illustrator, he did more than just Gormenghast ... much more... heh heh heh...
