*noses her cane*
This is a question, been bugging me for years, but it seems every time it comes up...AGAIN... somebody gets shot, bad things happen, gun control, gun control bim bam boom, nobody seems to get angry enough... *huffs* like ME... to put their finger in someone's face and ask this...
So, indeed. *thumps the floor* Normally, I leave me some comics out here for you fine folkes to get a giggle out of, and maybe you still will on this. Most of my comics are also intended to get across a point and hopefully make the viewer think.... *shrugs* Whether you do or not, meh, hey, as long as you're enjoying what I do, I'm glad. But this time.... *raises a digit* THIS time's a bit different.
Yes, I know the area of the flag normally reserved for the blue and stars in panel three is blank... *smirks* and if you can't figure out what I'm saying with that statement, *laughs* I can't help ya.
I gotta go to work though, so... talk amongst yourselves. Or don't. Oo- go watch Beetlejuice, fun movie, that...

Nah, I didn't. I have to apologize for that, I think I was feeling a little confrontational and decided to nitpick like a goober. Your art has that effect on me XD
That being said I adore your work, it's something to be said when you can make others think and trigger an emotional response ^.^

you do realize this is one of the many reasons i adore you right? I can picture you and i sipping tea [laced with Something] and just calming talking about these things.
One of the reasons I Admire you however, is how eloquently you bring these points to light. I share many of your views, I just cannot seem to voice them as well as you do. :)
The answer however is sad to say, People will say that baring arms is All American! while Marriage with anything/one other than a Man and a Woman is unnatural..>,<
yanno..like back when Women couldn't vote...and anyone who wasn't White couldn't do a damn thing....
In fact...if one were look deep, back in the what...50's? Black "Help" wasn't allowed to use indoor toilets due to "Black Diseases" But...it seems no one remembers those struggles these days do they?
No...it's hatred on anything that...well..is anything really.
I'd say more, but i'm really sick right now...and i'm finding it very hard to make my point. What i'm trying to say in a nutshell is that it seems that people who's families had struggled for equal rights not to long ago, have forgotten that as they try to take rights away from others these days.

Given I live in Australia, I don't really understand the whole need for a pile up of weapons in people's houses.
From what I manage to boil it down to at times, it is either "because we can" or "we need to protect ourselves".
The former being a case of people getting access to dangerous tools. The latter a case of fear.
Course, I can be wrong about that...
I just don't see a reason to have all those weapons. If at most, a shotgun, hunting rifle or a pistol is all I would consider necessary, if people are insistent on having a weapon...
As for the case of the right... Reminds me of a picture I once saw. Basically, it was a picture of a guy getting angry that his gun rights might be taken away... but doesn't give two shits about marriage and religious rights been taken away from other people.
Fucking hypocrites...
Lovely world we live in.

A gun like any weapon is a tool. Owning one says nothing about your person other then you wish to have one. Its for defense or offense and as with most people in America we have them for home defense. This is because we know that people who wish to harm our house, whether through theft or worse things, have access to these same guns. We keep them around to ensure our well being and the protect our ability to continue living. Even outside the house it is something that can provide protection. That is simply what guns are for, anything more or less is a personal thing of that person. Its not a failure of someone's self confidence or unfounded fear. Its simply use of a tool which is the sort of thing we do every day.
Idiots crash cars, emotionally and physically abuse their kids, their own money. Idiots will find a way to ruin anything in time but yet we are to let that limit the rest of us? There isn't some idiot test you can put people through at some point in their life. A tool is just a tool its not bad by nature.
And what kind of things would you check for in a background check? I'm not sure how you'd do a background check for immature and stupid people. I thought things like violent crimes already made it to where you can't own guns. If that is all they check for its not really changing anything.
...so why can't we give peace a chance?
Anywho, once upon a time I was fairly pro-gun. I blame the fact that I was a fairly-privileged white male teenager (because for real, we can't get enough of those things. Especially when we live in an environment where we never, ever see a real one in person, ever). As the years have gone by, however, I've found my affection for them slipping. And then tumbling off a cliff. At least, on a national, legal sense. Because I've got enough friends who own them, and still enjoy seeing them in all mah movies and whatnot. But still, on a grander scale, things ain't great. This country's a mess when it comes to the status of guns (both legally and in the general national mindset), and it's something that really needs to change. Not that it will, of course, but that doesn't change what needs to happen. Doesn't help the terrible, terrible misinterpretation of that amendment that keeps getting tossed around (not to mention the fact that maybe, just maybe, it originated as a safeguard against slave uprisings. Still looking into this one).
I dunno. In the end this is something I don't think I have enough of a personal stake in to really get worked up about. My political side is too busy foaming at the mouth over social and environmental issues anyway.

But... you already kind of answered the question... But that's speaking generally.
Then again I have this feeling if you pitched the idea to Bush that marriage is a terrible thing and convinced him it was terrible, he'd let anyone he doesn't want getting married to get married as a form of punishment.
I also think Bush didn't talk when Cheney drank water but that's neither here nor.... there. <.< >.>

Guns: The problem isn't that they're available, it's that they're available to anyone. Some increased measures to secure who owns them is fine, a background check would be sufficient. Just remember that if guns are ever outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.
Gay Marriage: Clint Eastwood himself stated that the issue of two men or two women in love with each other is less than a minor concern for our government right now. CLINT. MOTHER. FUCKING. GODDAMNED. EASTWOOD. Not only do we have bigger fish to fry than this "moral controversy" within our politics, we don't even have the proper pan to cook said fish. What two people to do/with each other regardless of gender is entirely their own business unless it crosses legal boundaries, and their rights to do it should entirely be respected.

I have honestly been for full equality my entire life I never understood why one group of people would be discriminated against just because of what makes them them. I am a gun owner (I have a .380 auto pocket pistol and that is about all I need.) and I don't feel like you need full auto weapons to 'defend your home' I mean yeah they are fun to shoot but I mean shit with the price of ammo it can put a huge hole in your pocket real quick.
I would like to make a quick reply in saying that, what may be "all you need", may also be inefficient to another person in another situation. Unless you have walked in everyone's shoes, neither you nor I have any right to say what other people do or do not "need" to protect their lives or families. And, being that I like freedom, I prefer to give my fellow citizens the benefit of the doubt that they are responsible.
Be responsible for your own actions, and accountable for them too.
Be responsible for your own actions, and accountable for them too.
The only problem most of us have in the United States is the fact that something like that is separate but equal. We didn't let such a thing fly when Black people were fighting for their rights. Thus now when they are trying to give that to gay people its the same fight. The fact that something like that still basically says that some how we are less to where we don't deserve that "magical" marriage word. The religious nuts were silenced with the first civil rights movement and they will be again.
Thus why we don't give any ground on this. To do so would allow them to put their faith into the state. Their faith can continue to do what its going to do but to allow the state to enforce that upon everyone else would be breaking our civil rights and snapping our pursuit of happiness over its knee.
That is the crux of things i think, it is "Freedom and law for me and mine, and those who think and act like us." Coupled with the "old way of thought," fighting the "new wave of change." Humanity as a rule does not like rapid change at the moment most countries are standing in the point where the old way of thought has been shown the error of it's ways, but still has a strong grasp while the new wave is either crippled by the system as it stands or the ones that can move forward with change are still too new.
In short all things in time, which is relative.
This being said I've always said everyone has a right to a few things. Peace of mind, Personal protection, Love, and Warmth of hearth, honestly doesn't matter who you share these things with just so long as you have a person you can share them with and lean again. Every person women born must carry the weight of life with them in their travels, this does not mean that others can not help share the burden and when you find a true love who can bear your life and you bear theirs does to really matter who or what they are so long as they connect with you?
It is a very strange thing to look at it all though, where do you draw the line between who and what a person should hold as their true freedoms? Why should we fear something so simply as a man and another man wishing to be with one another? or a women and another women is it truly a slippery slope or is your own mind so tormented with the thoughts of what could happen to see what is happening? Do you believe your version of god is so petty that when he created a person to be homosexual it was out of spite or that it was the "work of the devil?" Who if you truly look at the big picture WAS CREATED BY THE ALL MIGHTY and there for doing his work in a way that only makes sense to him? At then end of the day it is fear in it's most basic tribal form, "they are different from us they are the enemy they must convert or die." It is sad really, i don't hate people who act like that i can't... when i hear a man screaming "God envisioned marriage between a man and a women, not a man and another man." I just pity them and their... well hubris for one, and their blind ignorance la, but i rant and i've been up for... mm two days running off coffee, 5 hour energy drink and caffeinated gum so i guess i will end this weird rant created by c affine and random never twitches with what Mr. Rogers has told many people.
"God loves you just the way you are." - Mr Rogers
Then again, weariness of mind takes me perhaps i speak too passionately.. and with too much of my ass... haa... an impassioned smart ass

Reminds me of this politician moron the other week that tried to use Obama's drone missiles as a reason to bear arms. "How can we defend against his drone strikes on his own people if he takes away our guns!?!?!?"
....let's go back a bit.
"defend against drone strikes"
"gun"
....yeah. Anyone with even a fraction of a brain can see how fucking stupid that is.
Besides, if Obama supposedly is going to try to drone strike his own citizens, wouldn't running around covered with guns screaming insane threats against Obama just because he's black and liberal just give him more reasons to remove you and your artillery-filled house off the map?

I live in a state where same sex marriage is legal. (NH). After three years, the end of times has not occurred.
In regards to guns....
I'd be in favor of needing a license to own/shoot guns. A renewable thing every so many years, like an auto license, which would also include eye tests.
My grandfather used to have a handgun and shot it regularly. Even when he started to lose his eyesight.... (you did not want to be anywhere near him on the gun range.)
I personally only own a Thompson submachine gun (gift from my grandfather) and use it at the range occasionally. (cost of bullets has lessened my gun range visits.)
Would I be pissed to have to get a license? Nope.
Note: The gun is not used to help protect my family. I've got a security system, a bat, a nice old, heavy golf club, and a police station next door.

As much as I have support for 2nd amendment, all of this crap since the latest school shooting unnerves me on magazine size and semi auto. 15 rounds it too much, NY pols? Bullshit! Also a legal semiauto version of the M16 called the AR-15 is potentially illegal now because of reactions.
Sometimes I hate the state I live in, it's like you have to get a semi-auto AK47 in place of that now. :|

As with all things, its a matter of outright "Will it affect me or my future" (this to also include the next 20 or so minutes the average under 30 citizen cares to contemplate a said change of any law.)
Some say guns make for a polite and mindful society~others spout with power comes control...either way your point is valid on many fronts.
Equality will be realized as a necessity when everybody thinks and breeds little Boba Fetts love...and thats the sad truth of it.
Or so "Ze Germans" would have us believe.

You know the thing with me is that I don't even get that crazy about fun control. When it comes to thinning the herd, we can't be too picky. However it seems the right people's blood never flows lovingly into the street sewers. My problem is that those second penis gun nuts want to think that if everybody had a gun at all times, we would live in a safer nation. As I've said before, it's just the logic that bugs me. Same with assault rifles. Nobody needs one who isn't a part of our military or SWAT team. They're meant to kill groups of people in short time and a mere civilian planning such an act doesn't sound to me that a right that needs protecting. I think people are indeed within their rights to own a handgun, I think it's FAIR to give background checks and mental checks to those who wish to own such an effective killing device (The NRA must realize that nobody within their "ranks" would pass such tests...), but I wish people would just say what they mean - I don't want gun control to take effect before I've had my chance to kill somebody.
As it pertains to same sex marriage, well...it's an inevitability, the ongoing struggle against it is just silly.

I'm kind of surprised no one's brought up Switzerland yet. There are plenty of people who base their arguments on their gun toting ways on both sides, more who are pro-guns of course. But sadly, there is a lack of people bringing up WHY every single citizen carrying a gun works to limit gun crimes to near nothing. The Swiss take "gun control" in a very literal way. They know how to control a gun. Every single household. Yet plenty of the folk in America don't have such history that led to us being that responsible, which is why this keeps fucking coming up. The Swiss are like that guy across the street that as a kid read that manual about how to handle those fireworks he got from some shady guy in a back alley while we're the ones who jumped right in, but never learned how to set them off without a burn or two.
What happened was sad, but the fact is both sides are flawed. It "can" be safe to have everyone have a gun. But it "can" also be more dangerous since the risk of spur-of-the-moment gun violence is heightened with such easy access to a gun. On the other hand the lack of guns is just going to risk the chance that with less guns, there's less of a deterrent for a cocky mother fucker who got a gun somehow to worry about a thing when he goes out on a theft/murder/rampage/etc. All we need to do here is learn how to both support the ownership of guns, yet also make it so everyone's got some discipline under their belt instead of being a little shit who just wants to have one for the sake of having one.

Well, freedom does not come without risks. It is simply impossible. There are folk talking about "Oh you 2nd Amendment supporters, you don't care about the killings, just your guns and "freedom", and , frankly, such people don't really understand what the word 'freedom' means.
The US, is supposed to be a nation of free people, and the constitution is, in theory, supposed to prevent a governing body from infringing on the people's rights and freedoms.
Is it perfect? Nope. Does it need work? Absolutely. Is it going to be fixed, and made better? Uncertain.
Me, I am a gun owner. I own a great many firearms, knives, and other dangerous things. I do not hunt (though I do know how), I do not "sport " shoot, but I do own and know how to use firearms for protecting my home, family, life, and liberty. I do not believe in registration, I do carry every day (legally... mostly). I am an active supporter of preserving rights and freedoms, and support keeping government and church out of our lives. And, I am gay. And with all that said, (and much more I've yet to say) I support equal rights, and especially family rights, to all people.
Most of the gun owners I know are also in the same mindset, the mindset of "if you aren't hurting anyone, nor infringing upon their lives, freedoms or liberty, do as you please."...
I just don't know many gun owners or 2nd A. supporters what fit your description... =/

On the topic of LGBT rights, I say:
Let a guy/gal do whatever they want, So long as they don't force it down anyone's throat, Nor hurt anybody.
I don't discriminate, And wanting to hammer someone because they're gay, or something along those lines, Makes no sense to me.
If that's the case, Are we gonna start rounding up people with different blood types too?
Now for the guns:
The NRA does have some people who abide by that stereotype, Emphasis on "some".
There are some folks on FA, Who are NRA members, Or who want to be members, They're reasonable folk.
I myself, Am from Singapore, A country that practices conscription, And despite being bullied as a kid in school continuously, I never harbored any intention of using the SAR-21 assault rifle I was entrusted with*, To butcher innocent people.
(*Against my will, I might add.)
I acknowledged full well, The rifle was not a toy, Not to be fooled around with, And whatever shot fired was my responsibility, Not the gun's to blame.

I can one up that. In 2006 the Supreme Court had a case Lawrence V Texas where they deemed that you could not ban Sodomy (for those who don't know oral and anal for straight and gay people). Yes as recently as 8 years ago the right wing tried to criminalize sex acts between consenting adults and they still in some circles say we should bring back those bans. So that is not a violation of someone's rights yet having a background check to ensure that crazy people don't get guns is a violation? Seems like ones priorities are quite fubared of course this is the same people who think that rights include their right to dictate what you can and can't do.
Because this is the over all goal of some in the homosexual community. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9M0xcs2Vw4 I supported the government rewarding marriage when it helped to stabilize the family and in doing so stabilize the country , now however well morality has flown the cope so I see no reason for the government to involve its self. also federal marriage license are not a right they are a reward to incite people to help build a family.
