edit; oh wow ew, FA shrunk the image from its original size (1366 x 768) so that's why all the edges look like shit so please ignore that ok
Okay wow this is totally completely not done but I've been working on it in teeny little bits for weeks and I kinda figured I'd share it with you guys and see if I can get some feedback??
I'm really proud of the background so far, it's probably only the second time I've ever tried anything like this. Marv lives in Australia in the mountains so I just scribbled that out.
The one thing that's still eluding me is how on earth I'm gonna do a bit of shadowing on Marv himself. My layers aren't technically transparent for some reason so if I add shading as a new layer and try to use a blender on it, the color I'm shading with will blend into white and it doesn't work at all. I doubt any of you use Corel but if you do and you have pointers, I'd love to hear them.
Likewise, if anyone has any constructive criticism they can offer, I'd be grateful to hear it. I'm not sure if this comes across the way I intend it to and I'd love to know what you guys think.

ah thanks! he's actually got six legs, none of which are really useful because they're all different lengths and don't cooperate well.
but yeah those are actual stars on his back-- he recycles the stars x3
rather than just recite all this, i'll direct you here; the artist comments explain a bit more about him ♥

I love the drool on his mouth. Brilliant.
My one constructive criticism type comment would be that Marv and his background look completely separate. The background is in sort of this painterly style, while he's still sort of sketchy. When you finish his shading, that might fix it, but at the moment, it could use something to give it a bit of a difference between foreground and background, if that makes sense? Something that's a little more in focus, like he is, to make him feel like he's really in that image, rather than pasted over the top of it, basically.
Hope that makes sense. ^^;;
Still adore this character. <3

omg thank you that's my favorite part toooooo
and yeah that's the one thing that would bother me to leave him without any shading, is that he looks so out of place with the background. i'm just an idiot and i don't know how to use my own art program and i have no idea how to do painterly shading without completely destroying all the stripes. but yes thank you very very much for the comment! ♥

I figured that was basically the issue when you mentioned that in the description. I don't know much about coral, but you might try googling the issue. I've had some success with that in other programs. Even if you don't find your exact issue, you might find some work around. If nothing else, you might be able to add some foreground stuff, like a rock or something, to offset it? I guess that depends on the terrain of that location though, which I'm sure you know way more about than I do. haha.
oh pff no i don't have any idea about how the terrain would be xD i have no idea what australia is like. but yeah i might add some of the outlines on the bit of mountain he's standing on to see if that helps, though i don't wanna ruin the whole image by outlining everything.
