Rock and Rule was Clive A. Smith (Nelvana before the Care Bears). Bakshi did American Pop :)

Yeah, that was his feature film debut. He also did the first animated Lord of the Rings movie.

The rotoscoped one?

Yeah..man. You know, I know it was far from perfect but it still had a certain amount of charm. The voice acting was great, and they really 'got' the characters. The problem is, they didn't get the budget. Originally, it was supposed to be three movies, much like Peter Jacksons, only the production company didn't want to spring for the money and told them to condense the first two books into one movie. They started running out of money and that's when they decided to go a lot heavier on the rotoscoping.

As flawed as it is, without it, Jackson would have never gotten into Lord of the Rings and we wouldn't have his version.

I saw it once back when I was not really in a frame of mind to try to appreciate it. One of these days I'll hafta watch it again.
