Ashley woke up first peeking in Toby's room and saw he was still sleeping. She went to the bathroom and went to get breakfast ready. Toby moaned in bed rubbing his eye's and pulled the blanket off oh him and was shocked. He was soaked from front to back and almost leaking. Slowly getting up using the crutch to balance himself getting up and walking to his dresser. He grabbed a diaper, wipes, and powder and limped back to bed laying down trying to change his diaper for the first time.
His mom was close to having dinner done and went to check on Toby when the phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Hi this is Officer Jake, is Toby around?”
“No he's in bed maybe just waking up. This is his mother.”
“Good morning ma'am, I hope I'm not waking you up.”
“No sir it's ok. I've been up for a while. How can I help you.”
“I would like to let you know the driver who cut off your son and caused him to wreck has been arrested for D.U.I and will be in a jail for a long time. This is his fifth one and won't have his license for a good year or two, maybe for good. If you're son would like to come down and get anything out of his car he can. But his car is well totaled and will pretty much be crushed or used for something else.”
“That's good to hear. My son did want to see his car and see how bad it was. We will be down in a few hours.”
The phone call soon ended and Ashley went to check on Toby who had just finished changing himself and pulling up a pair of sweatpants. His mom smiled walking over to check his work and did a good job on his own.
“So the police called and told me the driver was drunk and will be in jail for a long time. But also said you're car is pretty well totaled.” His mom said helping him sit back down.
“What about the insurance stuff and everything? Will I be able to get a settlement or something?” Toby asked pulling a shirt over his head.
“We will see hun. Chances are a very good yes. Breakfast is ready now, come on and lets eat something and we will head to the station.”
Toby hobbled into the living room and sat on the couch and started to eat breakfast watching T.V. as his mom sat down also eating. Hour later they got ready, left the house and left for the station. Toby was nervous getting closer to the station not knowing what to expect. His mom pulled in the station, helping Toby out, and walked in.
They were greeted by Jake and went off to where Toby's car is at. They walked through the fenced in area where the cars where at and stopped. His mom held him with tears coming down her face and Toby was cold. All the windows were broken, the roof was crushed down, tires were gone and flatten. Toby walked up to it and couldn't help but look at his car. He looked inside and saw how worse it was inside.
“May I have my stuff from the car?” Toby asked whipping tears away.
“Yes you may. Follow me.” Officer Jake said walking back inside.
Officer Jake went behind the counter and in a room walking back out with his backpack and bags from his car. Ashley and Toby thanked him and headed out to the car. Ashley put Toby's bags in the back seat and saw his backpack was part way unzipped and couldn't help but to peek inside as Toby was checking his phone. She saw three diapers, powder, wipes and was stunned. She zipped it shut and got in.
They drove off to the mall for some shopping and to get something to eat later on. It was noon and they made their way in the mall and got a wheelchair for Toby so he wouldn't have to limp around so much. Ashley stopped in a few stores she wanted to go in as Toby checked out Spencer's, Rue21, Old Navy, and went to meet up with his mom who was just finishing up in TJ Max. They went up in the elevator to the food court and got Panda Express and found a table.
“Did you find anything good hun?” Ashley asked looking at her son.
“Yeah I got a few things. How about you?”
“I did. Got some new clothes and stuff for the house. Can I ask you something dear?” Ashley asked moving food around.
“Sure mom.” Toby said taking a bite of orange chicken.
“Why do you have diapers in your backpack?”
Toby chocked on his food not knowing how to answer her question.
