ARTISTS: BE BRUTALLY HONEST
Laptop bag in tow, Leo was ready to set forth on the path of post-secondary education. Along with him just turning 18, this would definitely be a pivotal milestone in his life.
OMG! Colour in a picture? Now that's a first!
This picture was finished the day before my 18th birthday. I would move into residence at Humber Lakeshore a couple of weeks later. This is definitely a pivotal picture to add to that pivotal moment in life.
On one paw, I like this drawing because it gave me a chance to work with more background elements and colour schemes; I was using pencil crayons for the colours (which sadly don't show up well on my scanner). I'm glad I darkened the brown in Leo’s bangs to make them stand out more. I'm actually amazed at myself for drawing and colouring the Humber logo freehand. The laptop bag also adds a nice touch to the "new beginnings" sort of atmosphere.
On the other paw, I'm not very happy with a few elements on this drawing as it was awkward trying to establish colours for certain parts. Some of his gold fur is really not standing out in terms of colour visibility along with the light-blue jeans and the sky in the background. I still fall in the same trap of anatomy: big head, small torso, and smaller lower half. I also how I drew the arms, wrists, and hands way too small; not only do I want to make them bigger, but I'd love to try and see how I can make them more paw-like. Plus I still believe that his tail is a bit too thin. And I'm not even going to remind you about my lame attempt at the chest fur.
Overall, I'm not crazy about it. But I still like how this was one of my last satisfactory drawings before I turned 18.
