So I'm finally done with my remodel on my semi-auto Norinco MAC-90. The whole gun bill scare that came around after Sandy Hook made it next to impossible to order parts. People were buying everything related to firearms as fast as they could so everything was constantly out of stock. The upper rail for my scope alone took me 3 months to actually find in stock on amazon and the black Hogue handguards up front were only sold on two websites that I could find. Putting the length of time it took to order stuff aside, here's what I replaced and added from back to front:
-Tapco collapsible buttstock and buttpad.
-Command Arms 1.25" Cheek riser.
-COI AK-47 Rubber Recoil Buffer.
-Aim Sport AK Top Rail Mount.
-Norin 2-6X28 Illuminated Mil-Dot with Picatinny Tri- Rail.
-Hogue 2-Piece Over Molded Handguard.
Original buttstock was too short for me and not very comfortable on my hand. Piston system slammed back into the receiver so added the buffer to cut recoil as well as preserve my receiver and back of the piston. Wanted an adjustable scope with a solid mount but scope got raised a bit more than I had anticipated so added the riser. Original handguards were ok but were too small and slippery so threw on the rubber coated Hogue set (which can be converted into a decent quad railed system by the way). This thing has a pretty good accuracy for an AK model at this point and the recoil is next to nothing. Yah, I know that 7.62X39 doesn't have much kick already but compared to an AK without the new buffer I dropped in, mine has maybe just over half the kick and rather than getting that sharper snap feeling as the piston hits the receiver, mine just gently bumps. And with the 5 round mag I can actually take this out as a varmint hunting rifle now. Personally I'm pretty happy with what I have on here now. May throw on some decorative toys in a later pic to show the before and after of this little project.
