This marks the completion of the meme - at least for those who told me what they want. Two folks have yet to do so, despite proddings.
MD doesn't have a character, per se, and prefers the more symbolic and mythical sides - I got two species to work with, raccons and ravens, and got let loose. After scribbling the loosest of concepts in stick figures, I finally settled on this idea.
Both raccoons and ravens have a thing for shiny objects, and are cunning beasts. The mythos surrounding both includes bandits and thievery, and both good and bad deeds/symbolism. Besides, everyone does death when doing ravens. They really can be playful birds.
All in all, they're rogues, and so, here we have the kings (or queens) of their respective species, greater in size compared to their normal kin there, having made an alliance to the profit of them, and the detriment of any wayward traveler. I wanted to post the lineart before I hack it to bits with my attempt to shade. Hope you like it MilwaukeeDriver! Birds are damn hard!

Thank you, very much. That raven gave me no end of trouble - I finally sort of gave up. I can't for the life of me figure out how I'm going to do those feathers. Your birds aren't too shabby either - you've been using references and it shows. They're looking much more realistic.
Yep, I have to use references and I think it's a good idea to do so... to at least get some semblance of reality and the structure. Those things just don't come naturally for me. I'm getting better at them, thanks for saying so too! Still I would love to do a raven that has a more "cartooned" expressive look and you've done that. I tried it today and I'm just no good at expressive beasts... yet.
To me that raven is perfect. I can't really tell that you gave up, you did a most excellent job.
