This is kind of a huge leap of faith for me, because I have a staunch rule about photos of me not being posted online. But I posted one here a long time ago, and I wasn't happy with it. As usual. This one I feel a smidge better about.
I feel like photos where you clearly went in with the preparation FOR a photo just never look right for me. I don't like to wear goofy shit in my hair, or on my face, I don't like to dress nice. . . I wear old Ts and crappy, torn-up pants that are more often than not covered in barn dust. I spend 90% of my waking and slumbering life surrounded by animals of some sort, my clothes are always covered in fur. . . it's just who I am, and a photo of me all spiffed up just never makes me happy.
My mate took this picture of me today in the barn, while I was hunting for sneaky hens' nests (one of them literally had two nests IN THE RAFTERS, I kid you not). The lady here with me is one of my Aracaunas, a nice old bird. I tried to smile some, but. . . I was about as happy to be in this photo as the chicken was.
But I'm happy with it, or at least as happy as I've been with a photo in over a decade. So I'm sharing it.
I know it's hard, but please refrain from nasty comments. I am extremely phobic of having photos taken of me, and it really WAS difficult for me to post this. I'll take it down if anyone gets nasty, and recede back into my shell.
And yes, I AM a woman. I know it's hard to tell. The fact that I have no inkling of female assets has been a lifelong condition, and I've only just gotten around to accepting it. I don't mind being called 'boyish' anymore, so you won't offend me if you say that :)

Didn't mean to be rough on you or anything. It's just... i know so many guys who are VERY sensitive, and you wouldn't believe how much they suffer from that stereotype mentioned above. Sometimes i get a little upset when it comes to that topic. I'm not mad at you or something, just wanted to point out that men can be sensitive, too.
This was the stuff that I used: http://www.younkers.com/shop/beauty.....es_142525.html
I used this stuff a few years ago and I believe the directions was once or twice a day - and in about 2 weeks the darker circles under my eyes had diminished

Imo you look like a woman to me. Not all women look girly-girl, if that helps. :>
My late sneaky chicken laid a nest of +25 eggs in the middle of a large bush, and camo'd it with leaves and dirt. Then I found another one outside the yard, hidden in similar manner. But no one bothered to hatch them. The hell birds.

I remember stories I've heard when you first told people you were a girl. Don't know if they are true but some people... -_-
Anyway, I think you look nice. I look similar, you are Ike the white version of me with less tired looking eyes.
You shouldn't give s damn about what people expect looks wise, if you are comfortable in your skin that's all that matters.

Dude no worries, here's a sweet pic of me with this white chick that lives in the same complex as me http://i.imgur.com/jEmukFx.jpg
I use to raise some Araucanas, but I mostly preferred the black Cochins. They were so lovely dovey, I only had to sit in the grass and they would come up to me and sit next to me and peck at my shoes laces. Good layers too. Too bad old age got to them. Now I got me a farm of peacocks running around with a few new hampshire hens.
I remember the last photo you posted of yourself and back and along with meeting you in person, I'll simply say the same thing I've always said. You look fine and NO I've never mistaken you for being male. As for a mater of a fact you really remind me of someone that was close to me that's no longer around. :) Honestly anyone who could say such nasty things has some serious mental holdups themselves and as hurtful as it is; pay that shit no mind! I for one say, and I'm sure many others will agree that you're a lovely, intelligent, and very honest person with an amazing talent. Always stay true to your self and never change for anyone!
there's nothing to be ashamed of, you are an extremely beautiful woman
I've been wondering for a long time what you really looked like instead of imagining an anthro goat/ram X3
my mate is just as phobic as you but he is only just starting to overcome it, it just takes time
just know we all love you no matter what you look like, you are very brave for doing this *hugs* xxxx

Natural photos tend to be some of the best ones in my opinion, if only because you know for certain what your mood was and the motivation behind it. You'll likely remember why you didn't smile like a goofy prom photo shoot, and what you were doing with your hen when the picture was taken (instead of just standing there leaning on a door or something boring).
I suppose in short, it feels more genuine. :) So hey, nice picture, and while it is indeed risky to link a real face with most things online, it is still nice to be able to place a face for positive reasons and to give a humanizing cast to what we do around here.
Thanks for sharing!

I have to say I am shocked to find out one of the artist I hold high here on fa is a your a woman , I never went into your personal stuff and thought you was just another guy who draw/writes beautiful art comic with a sort of gay undertone.
You took me by surprise! You just score 100 cool points ( so what is I am bias)
I have the dark ring under the eyes too IF you find out the secret post what you find I want to get rid of my coon eyes!
Rock on Rukis!

i think you look great!!! ^^ i've always been a fan of your art and never really went "hunting" for any pics and only caught a glimpse of you at RF cuz i didn't know who you were or what you looked like and all that!!! i hope you can continue to get over pics of yourself and gain confidence with yourself. you have a lot of talent and shouldn't care about what people say about you!! keep doing you~
They say as you get less concerned about showing off photos of yourself, it's a sign of growth and acceptance within yourself. Especially when you can be chill and relaxed when the Jr. High school era pics of yourself come out. So I'm gunna go with "Congratulations!" here. Is that an RMFC shirt you are garbed in there?
You actually look pretty close to how I thought you would look.
Except I thought you'd have more of a pixie haircut and had you peged as a button-up shirt kinda gal.
Guess it's because I associate plaid button up shirts with farms.
You'd look great in a plaid button up shirt the color of the inside of the hood of your hoodie by the way. That color really makes your eyes pop. ^-^

Aww, you two look sweet! ;3
It's cool to have a face to put to the work. Online, it's always hard to tell if the person you're talking to is male or female. It's not an important detail to know, but I feel you are closer to the person after knowing something about them.

I honestly didn't find it hard to tell that you are a woman, you can see it clearly in your face! Especially your eyes. Don't want to sound creepy, but just had to get that out there.
Hnnnngh, I love chickens. So much.
I remember my bf and I looking after a friend's chickens (one of his neighbour's chickens had worked its way into his flock, too xD). We noticed a steep decline in eggs and went in search of their secret nests (our friend had given us the heads-up about that, which was good. Otherwise we wouldn't have known!). They didn't get as wacky as up in rafters but his garden had some pretty thick bushes that were hollow on the inside - the chickens made much use of those! And the long grass!
They're a lot of fun to be around, I think :3
And I am ALWAYS covered in cat hair! I cuddle my kitty, my family's kitty, our dogs... And even if I don't my kitty sleeps on my clothes! It annoys my mum, always has, especially how I just don't mind. If I need to go out sure! I'll pull out the lint-roller. But I'm not about to stop snuggling my furbabies or kicking my kitty out of my cupboard because OHGODTHEHAIR xD

Awww, thank you :D I'm a bit self-conscious of my dark rings, but I refuse to wear make-up. Ever. They're, like. . . battle scars from a bad time in my life. Yeah. Sounds WAY more badass that way. . . .
Oh, you're gonna be at AC, right? We should hang, for once. I always see you at cons and am too shy to strike up a conversation. And I didn't realize until recently you were doing game books, that is seriously cool!

It really dont suprise me that youre a Woman, always thought that you were female, i noticed in your journals and so, never really looked for that old pic of you you mentioned before.

*giggles* I know for sure what its like being surrounded by animals and being covered in fur! I own six German shepherds and they are always with me and bunk with me. My bed is 90% dog fur! Lol! I also know what it's like looking for sneaky nests, especially when you raised free range chickens. You ever run into any oddities with your rafters? Back on my familes ranch, Mikey our goat somehow claimed up there and was walking around! XD I kid no not!
Short hair rules. I just got mine cut short recently and I love it. :D

I too have dark rings under my eyes a lot, but I have slightly tanner skin so it doesn't show up as much.
You look pretty. Don't let people tell you otherwise.

Rukis do you (or family members) have any problems with your kidney? Try to leave the salty things (chips), alcohol, caffeine (coffe,dr pepper, coke), smoke. I bet you frequently consume one of them, and mostly in the late hours. Probably your eating habits are burden your kidney. Try to use kidney teas(that will help to clear the blood, kidneys), drink 2,3 liter clear mineral water/day (no bubble). Because of the too much salty things made problem with the natrium-potassium balance in the kidney, thats make the eyerings, its a sign.
Thats why you should leave them, and eat more potassium contained fruits like orange, banana, potato to mineral rectification.
The best would if you do a medical check-up, especially to the kidneys.
I see a nice girl on this photo, dont know whats your problem with her. (And a nice chick, or two :P).

I barely ever eat salty things, I don't drink alcohol except on EXTREMELY rare occasions, and I don't smoke. I DID have a very bad caffeine addiction until just a few months ago. I'm now drinking very little to no caffeine (the equivalent of maybe one soda a week, no coffee). I eat almost nothing but whole foods now, and I eat tons of vegetables and fruit, since I'm not a big fan of meat. I did have kidney stones a few years ago, when I was at the height of my caffeine addiction, but I'm hoping now that I'm over it, I won't have a recurrence.
So yeah, not sure what more I can do for kidney health at this point. I drink a ton of water these days, and I hardly ever drink anything else, except lemonade, which I water down 50/50. I try to drink cranberry juice every now and then, but I hate it.
I had a physical recently after I went in for my kidney stones, and they did a full scan, didn't find anything wrong with me. I'm quite healthy, all and all. . . hoping to be moreso now that I'm not drinking soda on a regular basis. If you've got any non-dietary tips on kidney health, I'd love to hear them. . . but diet-wise, I've been extremely careful since my stones.

Try the asparagus, as i know this plant is the best for kidney problems.
Eat it raw, because the cooking can diminish the vitamins, enzymes.
And dont forget the cheaper ones like apple, parsley, dill. Raw is the best.
What type of water do you drink? Tap water, bottled water?
The too much kalcium can make the water "hard", and this can make stones too.
If your budget can take it, try to only drink diet water (minimal or no natrium).
The cranberry for urine tract care?

You have fantastically beautiful eyes. That's always the first thing at which I look on a person. Also, I've always assumed that you're a woman, from the way you type and write. I don't know why, exactly. I've just always pictured you looking very similar to how you do in this picture!
I have more respect for the person who doesn't try to prepare for a photo than someone who always tries to look like a magazine cover.
But I don't know... I think women with short hair and somewhat boyish features are attractive enough. The dark circles look odd but from what I gather above there's not a lot you can do about them.

Honestly Rukis, I've seen a lot of girls that look far worse all jazzed up with make up and flashy clothes than you in work conditions. You look good. Maybe it's the natural look, the honesty. Maybe it's the fact that real quality stands on its own.
Also: what the hell is it with people of talent and low self esteem? I swear, the two seem to go hand in hand. I have the exact same problem with my wife. Talented, good looking, yet she is convinced she's ain't worth nothing. Despite doing a doctorate. You're an awesome artist with great talent and you have the exact same problem.
Dunning-Kruger effect, perhaps?

I have thirty birds, so they don't all have names. . . I just call her one of the 'sisters'. She and her three sisters were rescue chickens. . . of a sort. . . my landlord has a friend who I'm all but certain fights birds, and he brought eight hens with severe health issues to the farm one day and just left them. Most of them were severely plucked and had no tails and virtually no feathers on their rear ends, and soon after arriving, two of them died immediately from some kind of undiagnosed disease. The rest were all frightfully skinny, but I managed to get them fattened up. We've had to bring a few of them to the vet once or twice, but they all seem healthy now.
I hate hearing that. >:( chicken fighting is so pointless and pathetic. Here in southeast Kentucky, it is very common. I work at a farm store during the summer and they sell "gamecock feed". I HATE having to sell it, and especially since it's a very good-selling product. I tell myself that they only buy it to fatten up the birds, but I know better.
When I read the title I immediately went "What? A chic among my man-prawns!?" Not a second later I get the image in my head of a hen walking with a group of male shrimp. Imagination is a wonderfull and scary thing ;)
I am the same with having pictures taken. And I really don't like having personal stuff on the internet. You are braver then I *bows*

You are as beautiful as your artwork is. That says it all :3
I'm sorry that you have had negative comments in the past. When people do that, they just show their ignorance and low self esteem. I know that words can and do hurt but try to ignore them and concentrate on how you make so many happy with your wonderful gift that you share with all of us!

I just wanted to tell you that, in all honesty, the only reason I originally thought you were a guy was for these three reasons:
- there was no picture of you in your artist ID (which is common. I don't have a pic of myself up, and I'm a girl as well)
- you post a lot of M/M art. Since a lot of the fandom consists of gay males, this would kind of point to you being a gay male (without any other knowledge of you). I am also an exception to this, as I very much like M/M and I'm actually a straight-leaning bi female.
- I'm dumb and like the rest of the internet, I assume people male until proven otherwise. I really am trying to get out of this habit, but it's kind of a common one, unfortunately.
That being said, I think you're rather cute ^w^
And it's really cool that you live on a farm. I really want to live on a farm, but considering I'm a city girl, I'll have a lot of learning to do. I am an equestrian rider though, and I'm determined to one day own at least one horse of my own.
And possibly some chickens, a cow or two...etc XD
So don't be shy. I understand if you don't want the pictures to be taken, but you have your own beauty and it's clearly apparent in this picture. Beauty, to me, isn't about looking like a supermodel--it's more about having a look that truly reflects the person that you are, and I think this shows us just that.

I very much agree on the photos; the only time I get prepped and primped is if I'm in fursuit:) I far prefer images be more natural; this is a very nice example of such.
and I have to say, just like I saw at FC, you have a very potent gaze; your eyes have the feel of a lot of history behind them, a lot of memories, but also a good spirit:)
Just got back from FurDu.
Some people shine on the outside but are empty inside, whilst other shine from the inside out. I see a woman - strong, sensitive, independant - but a woman none the less shining with their own inner light - and never let anyone say otherwise :)
Rukis - from a 50+ year old wolf - you have nothing to feel uncertain about your looks etc. Though I could imagine you with a smile.
Take care.. Your friend.. Marc

I loved your art from the moment I saw it and watched you immediately. The red lantern comic you and Myenia are collaborating on is my favorite work on FA. Not only is the art beautiful but the language used and the story are completely enthralling, and I find myself reading through the pages over and over without control. I'm only 17 years of age, but I can tell when somebody has a true gift, and you my friend, have a gift. Seeing the face behind the work is such a pleasure to me, it further confirms that we're all normal people being able to connect through the love of art. You're beautiful, please never stop doing what you love.
*smiles* It's really nice to see you and put a face to such amazing talent. I totally share your thing about pictures - in fact, perhaps more so in that I don't want to tie RL pictures of myself to the fandom, hence the lack of them. It's brave of you to post it both for sharing and for standing up to your apprehensions. It's also kind to share with so many fans what you look like, and a bit of neat information about your home, life and habits. ^_^ You live the sort of life my mate and I yearn for, and I hope you continue to enjoy that rewarding kind of life. :)
Just being honest here. Not sure if Brave or plain stupid in doing this.
Did we all forget about the not so recent stalker that went after one of our furry artist that the entire community up roared to have banned?
I don't know Rukis... not the wisest decisions in my opinion on this post.

I'd like to feel safe enough to post my own photo online. There's no personal information attached to it, no details about my private life, and I frequently go to conventions, where anyone who comes to my table will know the face associated with the art. I don't feel like it's something female artists should be afraid to do.
It's a sad world when a woman is so afraid of men that she doesn't have the luxury of being SEEN publicly. The ones who ought to be ashamed are the people who harass, not the unfortunate victims. The victim in the case here on FA did absolutely nothing to bring harassment down on herself, and the man who harassed her DID deserve to be banned from a friendly community site. That sort of shit has no place here, or anywhere, as far as I'm concerned, and if he'd be kicked out of a public establishment for behaving that way, he sure as hell deserves to be kicked off this site. We shouldn't be afraid to enjoy the same freedoms as men, just because of a few psychos.
That chicken is an Aracauna. She's four years old, and still a dependable egg-layer.

actually we look kindof similar and I'd say you look pretty feminine ;P
Stopped posting photos of me here though to avoid people knowing er, what I draw, which isn't such a big deal but I don't like being associated with most furries in such a 'friendly' manner, yanno.
You look fine though.

I think you are beautiful just the way you are.
I know it took a lot for you to post this, but look at all the wonderful feedback you've received from your friends and fans.
Never be afraid to show off who you are and what you've got; The people who try to shame you for it aren't worth your time.
You are a beautiful living, breathing, being, and deserve to be able to love yourself as much as all of your fans love you.
Don't ever forget that, okay?

You must've been put up through a lot of crap when you were younger. I hope I'm wrong though... but people are assholes. There's a girl from my university who kinda looks like you except she's skinny as all hell. She's the sweetest person I know. I don't understand why would people try to make her life miserable because of her looks... it's not like she wanted it to be like that.
Whatever it is that burdens you, or if there isn't, just forget about it. Many people dream of being as successful as you are.
Stay strong and don't let them get to you. =)

how rare, to see a photo of someone that is not specifically dressed up for the photo, nor wearing makeup or any special gels or anything in the hair, just the normal "you". Not many people share a pic like that, but i personally think a pic just like that tells who you REALLY are, rather than telling a sweet lie, even though most people probably will never see through the lie.
Great picture, relaxed and just being yourself is greatly appreciated. It takes much currage to just be yourself.

You are so beautiful! I've always had respect for women who show their true selves in this artificial social world we live in. I have a friend who never wears makeup, yet it never shows. I can say the same for you. I love your work and would love to meet you sometime! You seem very charming and honest. Take my word as the truth, and ignore anyone who says anything negative. (though I don't see why they would). I'm glad that you are coming out of your shell with this picture. You have entrancing eyes and an adorable face! *hugs & kisses*
Nice to see the beautiful face behind the art . I figured the odds that I'd ever actually meet you were low since I've never been to a convention and I don't know if I ever will be able to in the near future. I totally understand about not wanting your face on the net - I've been the same way for a long time.
P.S. I have the same "dark circles" under my eyes and I have for ages - no doctor's ever found a thing wrong with me so I guess it's just my natural coloration and I rock out!

I was just flipping through your scraps and came across this photo I'd forgotten about. If I could say just one thing it'd have to be to stop puting yourself down. You're a lovely women that I've had to the good fortune to have met in person as well. Always stay true to your self and never allow a small number of people to bring you down!
Chickens! <3 I had a huge flock when I was a kid as pets and for eggs. I often miss having them around even after so many years. Perhaps I'll buy a hen for my garden. ;)

I see absolutely nothing wrong with the picture, aside from needing more :). Besides I've already see your true self years ago so physical prints mean little. At least if I'm ever able to come to a furcon, I know whom to approach. :)
But I agree with you. I forbid pictures of my true self being posted on the net. I know every well nothing dissipates from the net, especially now with the NSA hording information. Sorry NSA what I have in my mind, will stay the one place you have no access too. Of course in about 100 years even that may be not correct. :(
Besides you remind me of a good Appalachian girl. Farmer and chickens and bib-overalls :)
(I was just attempting to find a picture of Shiviah and ran across your print.)
