They are building them a little stockier these days but they are just as fast and maneuverable as the original prototypes flown by Fox McCloud and the Star-Fox team. This model is designed almost exclusively for ship-to-ship combat against other fighters. The weapons they are equipped with are only really effective against larger ships in great numbers which is exactly how they tend to be fielded. Samaya's flight wing is just one of many!

She's seen a lot of action in these things. She flies them hard and tends to go through a number of them, keeping two or three fighters in reserve so she can swap them out whenever one is in need of repairs.

There are other models available but she uses these less often. One is a bomber or heavy gunner variant designed for use by two people where one serves as a gunner (think Apache helicopters). Another is a very fast, super-light unarmored starfighter designed to perform surgical precision strikes.
