This is what i use for projects to brush stuff away http://www.jerrysartarama.com/image.....dust_brush.jpg
well, that would be kinda even more tiring than blowing the dust away >^> i'm happy there won't be much more work with that anyway.
and the gypsum is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gypsum after making gypsum dust from the mineral and mixing it with water you can get hard but easy to carve shape (plate, block ect) like: http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/74899....._Sculpture.jpg for example

Looks like an interesting project. I love doing things like that but I don't get a chance to do it very often.
I would consider wearing a mask, an N95 mask to be precise, that should be available at most any pharmacy. It is what I wear when doing things that generate lots of nasty dust and it keeps me from inhaling dust.

Blowing the dust off is a bad idea. To deal with the dust, turn the piece upside down over a trashcan. I found this method caused less residual dust in the air and made less of a mess than blowing the dust off. This method also works well with things you are carving where the carvings can't be blown off (like linoleum floor tiles).
