The statue dude took far longer to design. Inking him was a challenge in itself and then I knew I would be throwing that away! The final design has no black lines, but is shaded and embossed. Using photo referencing, I made the man's face look more realistic by sampling certain colours. I also avoided using black at all costs as, it was the intention at the time, to make Steve a silhouette, so he needed to be the only black thing on the page.
