This was a weird week - random bursts of weakness, disorientation and dizzyness. Today my heart was aching, so naturaly, i asked myself what if it'd stop.
I read John Barth's Floating Opera - the idea that there are no eternal and self-contained values struck me as true. We humans assign value to things and things gain value only as means for reaching goals (in the broad sense). Money, freedom, love, life... We invented the notion of value.
I've read somewhere else that zen has a concept stating most things in life/world have no meaning whatsoever. (Most deaths probably too.) And why not death itself? Is there a beginning and end of existence at all? Is there only existence or are there local existences too. hasn't the notion of existence itself been invented too?
Seems nothing dies, nothing vanishes, there's neither beginning, nor end - states change, things disintegrate and assemble again, all is one and it Moves and it Works (call it nature, call it universe, call it math, call it god, call it unified theory of everything, call it whatever you want...) -- I almost get the feeling people started sticking what's left six feet under and preaching about souls being separate from the body due to fear of understanding.
One is a small cog in a big (infinite perhaps?) machine. Yet I see no tragedy in being a cog of something so beautiful, true and indesribable, whether in a condition to understand it or not.
Then again, thoughts are based on all those kind of invented illusionary and ambiguous concepts - probably only truth exists, which is most likely accurately uncomprehendable. So, there's nothing to worry about - all is well. :]
(Unless the Boltzmann's big brain theory is right - then we're pretty much fucked.)
*sigh* I've gone nuts already. Don't listen to me.
I need to get laid.

On a simply surface level, this one is even snappier than the last one. The combo of the turquoise and red against the dark green/grey just spank. There's a totally different approach here, too as if you're twisting planes of something clay-like. It's a striking image as well. Frightening in a way and yet not at the same time.
As to your thoughts on universe and religion, I can't help but notice that my cat lives her entire life unaware and uncaring about all this stuff and seems quite happy. Perhaps she, too is Zen. I am personally happy believing that things' worth is utterly in my own head and that there are no universal concepts as we think there are. Perhaps even science will eventually turn out the same way. Dunno.

existence is a weird thing. the only thing to prove we actually exist, or rather, have existed before are our thoughts and memories. however, our minds are faulty. sometimes your childhood memories are influenced by what others have said about your childhood so your memories are altered. so if you can't count on your memories there's no real proof of existence. i think we put value on things to give meaning to our lives (assuming they're real), sometimes even instinctively, because the sad fact that everything is just leading to death is a depressing notion. and despite my thoughts on this, i have no problem giving value to things, because i enjoy it. i am still human, and i do what a human does. i don't mind if there's an afterlife or not. i feel better being a good person so i guess im going to do that. in the end, though, if you did nothing in life, nothing would really change. if one sat around nowhere doing nothing with his life which inevitably ends in death, it's not really different from "real life" except that real life has more stuff in it.
BUT THIS CONVERSATION COULD GO ON FOREVER. THERE IS NO WAY TO TRULY ANSWER WHAT LIFE IS AND AN EXISTENCE OF AN AFTERLIFE SOOOOO....i love how you digipaint. really cool strokes :>

That's one view - doubting existence since you can not prove it. But the again, you can't prove you don't exist just because your memories are faulty and perception is limited. There's also this problem of defining 'you'... Western culture usualy have this distinction between nature and human, same thing about soul and body as if they were software and hardware of a person respectively; usually looking at it as a unified system is uncommon. In my book, a plug-in person with dead cerebral matter is as much 'him' as anyone/anything else, same goes for someone completely dead. Being aware of ones personhood doesn't mean that she/he/it exists, nor that she/he/it doesn't. Same way an insect doesn't have to have enormous introspection to live. I hold my view that it's very likely that both we and the world (read: simply everything) exist despite the existence or non-existence of any external or internal observers and their flaws of perception. It's like that marriage-related anecdote: "If a man speaks in a forest and there's noone to hear him, is he still wrong?"
Values are linked to meaning of life, that's for sure. It's just that humans always search for this elusive "Meaning" <insert lightning and thunder here>. It's not a bad thing - it leads to marvelous discoveries, but it's also very subjective and dynamic, that's why fixed self-contained values are impossible. I just found the notion of values being in essence a means to an end intriguing.
Imo, the fact that everything leads to death is sad only when overstressed. All life instinctively knows that all is temporary, that's what doesn't let life stagnate. Enjoy it while it lasts. Nothing ever appears out of nothing, nor dissapears into nothing. If all is one, neither life nor death is of importance (imo, neither they exist).
Thanks for the comment. :]

Haha, man, I love reading your comments 8>
I mean, the main problem I was trying to get at is that you can't prove or disprove existence or meaning. I still have alot to learn, and I'm so young, but your views are very interesting. I like the idea that the presence of death perpetuates life. Thanks for the good read :3
