I would have loved to have vocals in it; but no matter how much time I spent on the lyrics, they didn't turn out the way I wanted, and I decided I'd rather have an instrumental version I'm happy with than go for something that might possibly sound more impressive, but would always annoy me because it's just not quite what I wanted.

It's such an interesting juxtaposition. Flight is usually such a pure and joyous experience, but you've brought a much darker and more passionate element to it. Taking flight... on wings of razor steel! Beautiful.
I can see why you were so cautious about adulterating this one because you couldn't find the exact right words to suit it. Something this good can only stay so the addition of the most flawless elements. Because pure white mixed with just a touch of black is just going to be gray, and no matter how much more white you add, all you're ever going to get is more gray...
