I have suffered from depression for many years. The last few months have been really bad, with being borderline suicidal for the better part of a month. The meds are helping and I'm trying to get into therapy, but without money, it's kind of hard. I used to write stories and poetry to vent. This is something that I just randomly wrote in the midst of my current depression.

I like this piece quite a bit. Only those, who have suffered from depression can truly understand it.
As someone who deals with it themselves, I think that a piece like this one is the desperately-needed smack in the head to anyone, whose standard "advice" to a depressed person is a variation of: "You know, if you would just develop a more positive attitude, all your problems would solve themselves!"

Oh if only it were that simple. Those who say that have no experience with depression and do not understand that is is much more than emotional. It is a physical condition involving a reduction of the production of specific chemicals in the brain. Medication can help bring the chemical levels into a more normal range, but you also have to deal with the emotional stresses and triggers.
